Importing Characters

I have a FGII lite license and I'm in a D&D 3.5 campaign. Do I need to be on the server for my campaign to create a character or can I create it using the default d20 ruleset/character sheet and import it to the campaign?? Thanks

As long as you are in a campaign that where the DM is using the default d20 ruleset you can create a character locally that will be transfered over when you first connect, making a copy on the server. After the first time you will always want to select the server character when you connect to the game.
