(Mega)Dungeon Adventure
Hi guys,
me and my players want to play a game of DnD with the main topic of Dungeon Exploration.
A framing story is surely ok and can be created if needed, but the main aspect would be the great dungeon or dungeon system.
Exploration, Traps, Monsters, magical items, riddles etc. will be included.
I searched all sites like FG Store, DnD, DriceThru, RPGNow etc but i am clearly overwhelmed over the sheer amount of choices.
1. Are there any "fg ready adventures" that would fit our idea that you can recommend ? Or othe adventures i could "transfer" to use in FG ?
2. Do you know any "good" mega dungeon maps ? When i search i only find those in an "architectual style" and those do not look very good while using them in FG.
3. Are there any books about dungeon design/ideas/Traps ? That would be a great resource.
4. What is in your opinion the best dungeon map creator for "cool looking" maps ?
Thny in advance for your help and i hope this part of the forum was the right spot

1. There are no FG ready mega dungeons that I know of available now. (That's one reason I'm working on doing Undermountain, but it won't be ready for some months.)
2. There are a couple that I know of. Their is Undermountain (which you can find various maps for if you Google or buy any of the older UM adventures. Their is "The World's Dungeon" that you can get as well. There are several other mega dungeons you can find as well, but not sure what their names are, etc.
3. Yes, check out the thread GM Advice, though it has links to a book or two, I've never read the books. Their are lots of linked blogs that have dungeon design advice. A couple of topics at a minimum that you want to read are on; "Jacquaying", "5 Area Dungeon", "Node Based Scenario Design".
4. I like Campaign Cartographer with the Dungeon Designer add-on. You will want to read this post on Map Making Software.

Roslof Keep is a "mega dungeon" and available, but not the greatest for showing off all the FG can do as the maps are old school blue maps and the monsters don't have new tokens or artwork.
I would say that Princes of the Apocalypse is a "megadungeon" module as is Out of the Abyss. Both a very heavily dungeon crawls and most of the outdoors activity is moving from one dungeon to another. Both have nice maps and tokens and use many of the FG features.Ultimate License. If you are looking for something free, then there are not a lot out there that are very big. Pretty much anything that you can make a JPG map of can be run in FG, it really depends on how much work you want to do yourself to enter everything in. Making a dungeon once you have a map is easy and there are tons and tons of maps you can find via online searches. In my mind, the most important thing is to have a player friendly map. Something that you can show to your players and it does not have the room numbers and secret doors shown.
Example result from a search, maps to beginning levels of a famous mega dungeon:

I don't think that is the same thing as Barrowmaze, but I could be wrong. Barrowmaze has some small stand-alone crypts and one huge interconnected "maze" of crypts.
