    Battle maps for modules?

I recently switched a campaign to fantasy grounds, and was curious about the best way to go about using module maps as battle maps? I purchased Out of the Abyss (the module we're playing) in the hopes that I'd be able to drop players directly into some of the maps that are available, but some of the maps do not seem to let me do so.

Right now my players are in the whorlstone tunnels. The map for this area does not let me size tokens down appropriately, and in particular the zoomed in portions of the map are cut off so I can't even use those specific parts. They are clearly mean tto be used as battle maps, but I don't know a good way to implement them.

    Hey, welcome to the forums.

I don't have OotA, so I can't speak specifically to those maps... usually any maps intended to be used as battle maps will have a FG grid placed on them, then unless you have turned off the GM option for auto-sizing tokens, tokens will snap to fill 80% of the grid (again, unless you have changed the option).

So, does the map in question have an FG grid on it? Do you have auto-size tokens enabled? Are you dragging tokens to the map from the Combat Tracker and only the CT?

    Welcome atlphenom

I hope you are not trying to drop your PCs (or NPCs) directly on to the map.
This is possibly the single most important thing to know.

All actors - NPCs and PCs go into the Combat Tracker and from the Combat Tracker onto the map.
(Prebuilt encounters will do this for you.)

    Welcome to the forums!

The specific map you mention (whorlstone tunnels) is really never meant to be directly used as a battle map - note the scale (25 feet per grid square).

The zoomed in sections of that image are available as battle maps within the OOtB module itself - linked from the story entry for the location - click the shortcut pin on the map to access this.

Other maps have been added as a community map module - see the "Extensions, Modules, Pregens and other 5E resources" sticky thread at the top of the 5E forum here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...play.php?68-5E

This is an important detail. Coming from Maptools I had to learn this the hard way

I just re-read this. They aren't cut off from the map - it is just that the map does not show the whole image when first opened (at least that was the case for me) - display the whole map (resize via the right-click menu) or use the image pan feature to move the image around within the display window. See here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/...Images#Viewing

I just checked my copy of Out of the Abyss and that map does not have a FG grid. Tokens dragged from the combat tracker end up larger than colossal-sized based on the number of squares they occupy. Whorlstone.jpg. That token is ridiculously large and I did add it from the combat tracker.

Adding a FG grid is tricky because the map is HUGE and the squares are different sizes both in scale and in actual size. The top half of the map is scaled to 25'/square and the bottom half is 5'/square. Then the top squares are about 50% larger than the squares on the bottom half of the map.

I think it needs to be split into two maps and given a default grid. It is a really messy map.

It has been split up (into more than 2 maps) - see my comments in post #4 above.

I totally misunderstood what you were saying in there. And going back and checking I now see how each room (or group of rooms) has its own map that do work. Cool beans. ^.^
