    Connection Test Failure

    Hi,
I keep getting Connection Test Failures, despite having port 1802 on both TCP and UDP for my local IP. I’ve even deactivated the firewall to check whether it is affecting the Connection Test, but I still get a failure result.
    Help would be appreciated.
    Best regards

There are a number of possible reasons.

Check that you have forwarded the port to the correct internal IP address for your computer.
Make sure that your network is set to private and not public
If you have a modem and a router you'll need to chain the port forwarding from one to the other and then to your computer
Make sure that you aren't on an IPv6 network - if you are then you won't be able to port forward and will need to consider a VPN solution.
Make sure that your Firewall AND antivirus both have FG whitelisted.
If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

    Thanks Zacchaeus,

I rechecked the port forwarding. It is forwarded to the correct internal IP.
Network status checked. It is set to private.
Firewall and Antivirus both have FG whitelisted.

Yet I am in an IPv6 network, do you have any recommendations on the best VPN software to solve the problem? I have read on the forum that Hamachi is not recommended.

    Thanks

I hesitate to recommend since I've never had to us one. Himachi seems to be easy enough to set up but people do say that they are concerned with security issues. pureVPN is the only one I have knowledge about and it seems to be less intrusive.

Why? It works great, when it's needed.

Hhhmmm, not sure where you've read that. Quite a few people use it - information here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...ng-Try-Hamachi

Some people don't like it because it requires everyone (GM and players) to have it installed on their computers. Whereas a dedicated VPN solution means it's just the GM who needs to have the VPN setup.

There was a VPN test done for PureVPN a couple of months ago, and this worked well for a number of people - as long as the dedicated IP address add on was purchased. PureVPN is available here: https://www.purevpn.com/

    Hi Trenloe,
how about the FG steam version, does it run into similar connection problems, or does it run via the Steam servers? I might consider an upgrade to Ultimate, if that is a solution.

It matters not where you purchase FG you still need to forward ports. The Steam version doesn't run through Steam.

The Steam version is exactly the same as the non-Steam version.
