Party Sheet Question

There is a tab on the party sheet that shows formation. I am not understanding the point of this. The tokens on the map will show the formation. Why do I need it on the party sheet?

This is to establish a marching order (in case players are not specific about marching down your secret monster filled surprise attack hallway). Also, most people use it for watch order for long rest. There are various other ways to use it as well. It's just an extra tool. Also, you can use that tab on the party sheet AS AN ACTUAL MAP if you have a small encounter you don't have a map for.
