For a line you basically need a non-square aspect spell token... ie at 50 pixels per 5 foot square, a 500x50 pixel texture would be 10x1 squares or a line..

If you are want an variable size line, then no... Id suggest setting up a segment and have the player drag out more than one spell token..ie make a 100x50 pixel for a 2x1 line segment that you place down multiple lines to make the longer line/curve etc..

The other shapes are to do with different systems... some need 90 degree cones, and some use 60 degree cones... and then you have options to have the centre of the texture as the centre of the cone. Normally the cone shapes take up the full spell token and then rotation happens in the 'middle' of the spell token cone... ( The other shape just allow it to rotate on the cone focus point, but you have to track the cone with the mouse as it rotates to make sure you stay over the spell token etc.. but requires the bottom half to the spell token to be blank to allow the cone start point to be in the middle of the texture/spell token.)

edit: triangle has a 'flat' end to it, cone has a 'cured' end to it. Its again a difference between different rule systems.

Thanks so much! It would be handy if there was some documentation for this extension so users don't have to flip through 100+ pages of this thread to figure out all the features. I didn't even know you could rotate by small increments or attach spell effects directly to player tokens until I looked through this thread for an answer to my question.

Place the spell token on the map where you want it. Right click the spell token and click the correct group you want to target, foes or allies. Holding shift and clicking either, will target all in the area of the spell token.

ah, okay. I was wondering what those buttons did - they did nothing because of the collision percentage and/or area. Thanks!

one more question / confirmation, reading thru the thread it seems like an FG limitation that we can't have the auto target work accurately for things like rays/lines and cones, right? Since tokens are always squares?

It works for all B9 spell tokens. Rays/Lines and Cones also work just fine. Test it out, you will see.

Since the last few rounds of updates, I noticed that Spell Tokens interferes with the power tab in the 4E ruleset. I have not tried any other rules sets so I can verify if this happens here.
Look at the included picture, the link to the power is now under the uses check boxes.

I have a problem with the latest update; if I use the extension “B9 Spell Token” which is paid, in the character tab it does not allow to click on the power icons and then open them. Please help me with this.

Not seeing this issue in 5E, so wanted to make it clear that this seems like a 4E problem.

The problem is that he didn't respond by saying he's going to fix it, he simply said it's a D&D 4e-only problem, as a result he doesn't seem to care about anything, but I spent money on this addition and I want it to work. I am very irritated about this.

Welcome to the world of third party mods.
Also, these mod makers have lives beyond the gaming world, you pay your money, you take your chances and even a week or two isn't out of the question.
Do your best to let the maker know you have an issue and then disable the mod and wait.

Who responded to you? Was it via PM or in another thread? MrDDT's comments a few posts back aren't from the author of this extension. @bratch9, the extension author, hasn't logged into the forums since March 11th, they may be away.

I'm the one that said it was likely a 4E problem, because I'm not seeing it in 5E. This helps towards trouble shooting and knowing where to look for the issue.

2 days is not very long for someone to reply to a report of a bug, just FYI, let alone fix it.

I'm just taking a look at this now. The reality is that 4e is very low priority for fixes because I dont own any of the content, due to how its licence data was provided. So for me to test this sort of thing I actually have to 'build' npcs and powers from scratch as data... so as you can imagine it takes some time to setup and test and replicate.

I'm away at the moment, hence the delay. Once I know the issue and can replicate it, I'll try and sort a fix. I'm not sure I have everything on my laptop to be a make an update/upload. So even the fix will have to wait until I get back to my development machine and source control etc..

Not sure if this will ping anyone, but, I am trying to use this extension and when I click SPELL TOKENS CONFIGURATION under the LIBRARY on the toolbar, I only have the Export, Import and Edit options, and not the green button to add spells / tokens. Does anyone know if I am doing something wrong? Extension is indeed loaded.

Hi,

if I'm understanding what you're trying to do, try right clicking in the body of the spell token box. If I remember correctly (I'm not at the pc right now) that allows you to add a line for a new token. It had me flummoxed when I was new to the extension as well.

As Ludd said, just right click and create item. However, you likely right should have a + icon to match other themes.

Forge v7.31, Updated to add an 'add' button, and fix errors from onDrop into window match/create strings from the likes of 'text drags/spells shortcuts'

I'm not going to be updating DmsGuild spell tokens builds from now on.

I'm having a minor issue with B9 spell tokens loaded and using widgets (like the new indicators by Smiteworks) are being forced over other tokens around it. With it B9 spell tokens off, it works correctly with the last token moved is "on top".

Again this is a minor issue and if it can't be fixed because of the other tools needed to keep B9 spell tokens working how it works where they are less intrusive, I get it. Just didn't know and figured I would report it, maybe something can be done.

I'll take a look, not sure on the widget you are talking about... is this just the new 'animated' selection ring thing ? Or some other new thing that has been added ?

Do you have a config, as I was looking at the animated tokens and they seems to have a below and on top type thing, but I assumed they used the same addimage like the health bars/dots etc and hence would not interact with spell tokens. ( Since it uses the token system directly. )

I was waiting for the new ( from the video early this week/last week ) of the menus going into menu lists from the radial buttons... as I totally expected that to break things !!

Just been taking a look and I'm not sure exactly how to resolve this sort of thing. ( Yep without my extension basically the last moved will end up on top. )

While Spell tokens generates a bunch of 'priority' layers within the tokens and so has to 're-sort' the order of all tokens after a token is moved.

This allows for things like,

In which I have set the NPC to below the table and the PC to above the table. ( Spell tokens by default a lower. )

The system basically has 5 layers.


1. Spell token low
2. non spell token low
3. spell token mid
4. non spell token high
5. spell token high.

With the spell token low/mid/high, been set in the configuration window. ( As I say most spell tokens are set as (1) spell token low. )

The npc/player tokens default to (4) non-spell token high. You can use the 'toggle' priority button/menu item to swap this on the npc/player tokens.

When a token is moved they are adjusted to been at the priority been set.

At the moment it has no concept of which was moved 'last' on a specific priority because it just asks for the list of tokens and splits them into the 5 groups and has to 'bring to front' all the tokens on a per group to sort the tokens as configured.

I'm not sure what things you are stacking on top of each other to have to worry about tokens been on top of each other. I guess you have npc/player overlaps ? Which I consider only as an accident case as most players dont on-purpose move token on top of each other. So they only need to be able resolve this if it happens.

Do you have a specific case that causes this, or is it just more of a 'test' and you noticed this. ( Its been like this for over a year that spell token extensions does not respect last moved token as on-top due to priority system.. )

I think it’s being seen more because of the indicator and widget options out. Now I’m starting to use it more it’s being seen.
At this time because of this and I have other ways of doing spells for the most part. I’m starting to want to use this ext less.
As I build more with widget effects I’m looking away from Spell Tokens and a more automated way to do spell effects. However there are still great cases I like to keep using spell tokens.
But if this is going to reorder randomly who is on top of who. Makes me not want to use it.

Honestly Fantasy Grounds needs to give us a way to set these settings. Because there will be some good cases of making images that need to be above widget layers and stuff and some tokens need to always be low while some should always be high.

Agree the API is lacking. I'd like to see layers that can be set above the tokens, and lua control for show/no show, and access to the list of sprites added to a layer to move/rotate etc after initial create, and been able to have different show/no show per layer and per player. ( for things like multi-layer maps to allow one player upstairs while with other players in other places... and things like above token cobweb layers etc.. )

Exactly, I was even thinking last night that it would be nice to have things shown above the grid layer. So, you can give the illusion of depth correctly. But that goes right along with the other things you are saying.

Part of it I think was we've been struggling with some slowdowns in FGVTT for the last 1.5 years but it's starting to get better and now I'm looking at making it look better in maps and I see other VTTs doing things I want to do.

FGU started with lower performance than classic, and has got worse. I've not noticed any improvement in performance, the move to webp has lowered performance. A lot of the windows you can see take actual time now to just open, even the right hand side bar got an initial stutter. I'm not sure what causes the performance issues. I do have some tests with convex hull outlines for the likes of spell tokens. I have code to split them by line and hence have a test system that splits a hull by the grid lines and calculates the area in each grid square. While the math to do this in lua can get expensive as the hull gets large, one of the major slow downs is just passing each cut bit of hull to the layer system. I dont know if the performance in this case is the likes of network traffic doing sync of each added layer item or if its the lua=>c#=>lua context flow. ( Considering I was testing just on host with no clients, I'd expect network to not be an issue... but adding to the items to the layer system does take a chunk of time if you do a few hundred on an update.. )

Its very clear that some effort towards other vtt features is required, but I'd prefer to see better 2D support for layers and a proper internal audio system. While I like the idea of 3D, I think the DM effort to setup/customise is too high. 3D is fine if you are going to have 3rd party payment for fully constructed modules. I think we have just seen the net result of 3D vtt failing !!

Until the likes of one of the 3D AI generator tools is fully integrated in to a VTT and even maybe a LLM to allow for quick text to generation, I'm not sure 3D will work. Its fantastic in the like of BG3 but that is a fixed world of custom art with years of development. Until we can sort of get to that vision with ease of editing I dont see 3D vtt been anything other than a cash cow grab.

I'd love to see proper audio, things like traps with triggers and responses, multi level maps that just connect. We need above layers for things like spider web, or just chandeliers above the current play area etc. Easy things like multi-state items, like open/closed trap/chest, or normal/tipped over table, or searched/not searched desks, or just disturbed rubble when a player moves over it.

I think with extensions we can do a lot of these things, 'sort of', and that is the problem at the moment. Just too much compromise to fit, making a near solution instead of a proper solution.

The LUA->c# api needs changes, I'd like to see every window class work via the api. ( Instead of the image window been a lot of hidden direct c# stuff. I think most other windows are simple and use lua, maybe assets display needs some extra exposed interfaces. ) I've not looked at the new radial->menu changes, but this used to have c# built pre-setup. In spell tokens I replace the rotate and add my extra target buttons, but could not remove default stuff off the radial that was not required.... and currently the spell tokens extension now has multiple rotate entries in the menu system, so I need to look into how to 'adjust/replace' those if it is even possible from lua.

Performance for me is more about response, than time to show. I would be happy with assets window, if it did not stall but show 'loading...' box while it processed the specific load image. I'm not sure how quick the 'lots of spells/power' character window is at the moment, as I've not tested that for a long time.

Dumb question, since it looks to me like it is. But is this Diablo Bob extension that I saw Laerun present on Fantasy Ground Academy? That video is showing 4 years ago, and the video links are borken, which sort of makes sense as there were messages in this thread saying some issues with the DM Guild.

Completely separate products although they have some similar functionality. B9’s Spelk Token Extension deals with just that, DiabloBob’s Criticalky Awewome Essentials has similar token functionality while also doing other things like handling Polymorph/shapechange/wildshape stuff.

You would have to manually drag those images onto the map and remove them each time. So pretty much no.

You should look into Generic Actions it has 2 exts in it. One of them is called Generic Actions Layers (all part of the same ext) and it will do what you want.
