We are hoping for some time in October. I would say that date is at medium risk currently.
When I say October, our developers are thinking Oct 30. Kickstarter Backers are thinking Oct. 1st.
I read “medium risk” from devs, I think Dec 12th or Jan 20th.
That’s not a diss (I’m a developer) and I figure “medium” is “high” due to “the hidden arm” and that pushes it back to later in November sometime. Now, after reacting to the surprises, they need to retest and feel confident the scramble ended up in a great place. A minor issue or two will crop up but while small, not something they want in a first impression. Then, unless all are non-Christian and/or practicing consumerists, the XMas holidays and family distractions come in so if it isn’t released by early Dec, they’d probably code freeze. Hence, early Jan.
That all said, I have NOOOOOO clue lol, I hope it’s soon but I’m happy to wait for a product that will be reviewed effusively and steal potential and maybe even current Other brand VTT folks towards FG.
Hopefully it will be released in Beta in decent condition sooner than later but only when they feel it is gtg vs our greedy hearts ask for it :)
And then... Released to widespread acclaim.
“Let the pigeons be loosed!”
** erase was WAY off topic question **
After consulting astrological signs, lighting the incense pots, doing the incantations to please all the various Gods of Chaos,
tossing and reading the signs from orc bones, reading the entrails from a centaur, examining the excrement of drow driders,
consulting with a learned body of dragons... We have a answer for the Prophecy....
"WHEN ITS READY..........."
With Beta will we be able to set object tokens down that represent carriages, bridges, boats, on layers that will not interfere with the player tokens and that they will not be able to manipulate or move without DM permission?
Thanks
Tokens will work similarly to they do now. (Player tokens can be moved by any player; and GM tokens can only be moved by GM)
Additionally, the image record supports multiple layers; so you can place additional object placeables on the map without making them tokens at all. (i.e. furniture, items, etc.)

If I get into beta of FGU before the end of the year I will be a happy camper :)
Do it right, not just right now.
I have actually put the re-vamp of my little campaign on hold until FGU, taking a break for a while. As i need to re-create every map, and re-do all artwork and a major re-vamp of the story... it was a good time to take a step back and await the platform I want to run it on.
I bought my ultimate license after the kickstarter ended. How much will it cost me to upgrade? Will there be another chance at the kickstarter for us Johnny-come-lately people?
I just know I'd love to be surprised by beta access now in October.
I'll be happy to purchase upon release. I didn't get in the kickstarter, but have been happy with FG2, and look forward to purchasing the upgraded Unity. Even purchased PF2 recently for FG2. So please ensure emails are sent when Unity will be available to the rest of us. Thanx.
If you wish to be on the mail list, sign up for the Newsletter. Though they might email every license holder, it's more likely they will just announce it via their newsletter rather than email people who have not opted in (i.e. by signing up for the newsletter).

The problem is that gamers ( like us ) take an unofficial target date, as solemn promise, the cross your heart and hope to die, even so far as a pinky swear promise, I guarantee you that someone somewhere ( not me ) will call you a the word "Liar" if it does not happen on that date. It is very dangerous to give gamers even your wildest hunch about a future event. :)
I've had the opposite problem at times. I asked a question on a publishers forum when an specific book they were working on updating to their new edition would be out. They gave the standard "We can't say answer", so I bought the old edition, only for the new edition to come out the very next day...
No, it's not. Because it came out the very next day.
There's a difference between "not wanting to make a promise" and "somebody probably just has to put it up on the storefronts, or it'd be OUT NOW."
Your explanation is reasonable in almost every other case, but there's no reason to take it to the logical extreme of "Sorry, if they said 'soon' and it didn't come out in fifteen minutes then they'd be liars and everyone would quit using their product."
It becomes a rule, never tell them anything until after it has happened, if you asked them ( and they actually told you ) they will say exactly that. What I said stands. Yes some have taken the rule to extremes.
Is there any word if during the Beta, Ultimate License users are going to be able to test the program with demo users? I'd imagine that's a bit much, given demo users weren't part of the Kickstarter. I'd just like to be able to test the program in a game setting proper myself.
If we can't test it this way, I'm not sure what the point of the Beta is ... I'd guess that somewhere around 75 to 80% of license holders are Ultimate owners who play primarily with Demo users ... if it's a real Beta, you gotta be able to actually use it.
I'll be really surprised if it's a useless Beta.
Eventually, probably. But expect initial Beta release to only be open to Beta pledges.
I imagine with 8000 of us, it won't be hard to get a one-shot or two together for testing things out in game mode. Remember, this is a true beta, it is not intended to be used to run real/live games. Expect issues and even the possibility that data formats might change and things done in one version of the beta to have to be redone/created in the next version (that is highly unlikely, but it is possible).
Under US law there are all sorts of issues for public companies saying anything in the future. To avoid issues, many of companies have adopted a say nothing until it is generally available approach (hence the stupidity knucklehead had to deal with of the publisher not admitting the new edition would be out tomorrow).
Any private information that *could* affect stock value, no matter how small, is regulated under SEC regulations. Saying anything could be prosecuted as "insider trading".
Even telling employees certain information can be restricted/illegal.
I worked at a company where we had a all hands one day and the CEO denied rumors of bankruptcy/sale. The bankruptcy was announced 2 days later. It was inappropriate (imo) for him to have the all hands, but it would have been illegal for him to have done anything but to deny the rumors.
What's a 'all hands'?
In this case, a company wide meeting where the leaders get up in front of everyone and present. Many companies do it annually to give a status to the employees, answer questions and make the "individual contributors' feel like they have a way to seen and be heard by the executives. I think the company size was about 5000 worldwide. So many of us where in the cafeteria, but most of the employees were on various video conferencing locations.
I have never assumed there will be a beta demo version for the general public. Yes that would be wonderful, but I never ever expected that, I do hope there is a demo version on actual release, as I prefer to pay for the ultimate licence and allow my players to be able to access my game without having to buy anything at all. That has been one of the great things about Fantasy Grounds classic.
Is it too early to refer to the Fantasy grounds we have now as classic?
I suppose it is... but it already feels that way
