I’ll post a picture when I’m home from work later on.

Yesterday we where playing 5e with FGU and the player who’s character is a cleric, couldn’t find the durations in the the spell descriptions.
And I couldn’t either.

Click the spell link to bring up the spell to see the duration.

Ok, here it is, really strange.
On the right is the original character with the spells without the duration.
On the left I created a new one with the Character Wizard. This time I also chose the spells from the Character Wizard.

What modules do you have open? The Character Wizard draws stuff probably from the PHB primarily but if you have multiple modules open then it's possible that another module was used. I've checked the Basic rules and the SRD and they all have the duration. Another possibility is that an extension you are using might be interfering.

No extensions except for Theme and FR Languages.
Modules : Players : Forstmaiden, Tomb of Annihilation
Campaign: Sword Coast Adve. Guide
Core : D&D Master, MOnster Manual. Players Handbook,Sword Coast Adv. Guide.
Supplement: Descent into Avernus - Players, Curse of Strahd - Players, DMG Players, Fizban, Fizban Players, Ravnica, Ravnica Players, Monsters of the Multiverse, Monsters of the Multiverse Players, Strixhaven, Tasha, Tasha Players, Witchlight Players, Van Richtens Guide, Van Richtens Players, Xanathars Guide and Xanathars Guide Players.

I'm unable to reproduce. One thing that I notice is that the image on the right shows 'Spells' rather than 'Spells (Cleric)' in the power group header but I really don't think that can be an issue. Whether I create the character via drag and drop or via the Wizard the spells in the actions tab link to the spells and each spell shows the duration of the spell- so I'm out of any ideas. The only other question maybe is how was the character on the right created?

Yes, I have to admit that I am also flabbergasted :)
I imported the character from D&D Beyond, then I recreated the character with the character wizard to see if FGU does a good job :)
But I didn’t choose spells with the character wizard, instead i dragged them on to the sheet from the spells tab.
Thats basically all I did :)
The only thing that is strange, when I dragged the spells from the left sheet to the right, the “Cleric” entry disappeared, from Spells(Cleric) to Spells.

I will keep an eye out for this during the scheduled overhaul. I will be beginning this overhaul after my current super secret project.

Wait, so is this happening to characters imported from DDB or from characters created solely in FG?

Locotomo

The change of the “cleric” entry happened to the characters made with FGU.
I already deleted the DDB character.

First, sorry for the ruckus and that I am in the wrong channel, but this will be the last post regarding this case :)
I retraced the steps and the following happened:
I imported the character from DDB. Then I recreated it with the character wizard, but the spells I just dragged over from the DDB import.
So, sorted, my mistake:)

regards, Loco

(edit: But you can´t create a proper knowledge domain cleric with the character wizard. You have to absolutely double check because of "Blessings of Knowledge")

TL;DR: Arcane trickster can't select spells unless selecting other spellcaster class/subclass.

Two days ago I was getting ideas for a homebrew subclass and I though to give it a specific cantrip + other two just like an Arcane Trickster. So I Try to build an Arcane trickster to see how does FGU builds it, if it counts towards cantrips known, etc. However when I moved to the SPELLS section in character creation an error would pop up in the logs, that I clearly don't understand, and no spells available would show up, no spell list would be selected and no spell can be added to the character when manually selecting a spell list.
As of recently I discovered that if you select ANY other spellcasting class, sometimes you'd get the logs to pop up but you would still see your list auto-selected, spells available to select, and when you select a spell it adds and drives the count up to the maximum allowed whether is cantrip or leveled spell. However if you select any other spellcaster, go to spells part of the creation, then go back to class and select arcane trickster, then go again to spells, now you would see the cantrips, although no list is selected, and you can add spell driving the count up. But you still have 0 spells available so you can put infinite spells. I don't think its game breaking I just think it's EXTREMELY weird that it just happens with one specific subclass and no other spell caster and I own almost all official material for 5e. So I tested one by one every class and subclass of all the modules separated. Meaning for example, I enable Wildemount to test the wizard subclasses without any other module except for DMG, PH and MM which are the basics. Maybe I should have ditch those and test de SRD and Basic Rules to see if any of those are at fault.

I uninstalled every forge extension, disable them, updated and forced updated the FGU client (Steam version idk if it makes a difference) and tested every official module separately. Today as of posting this it's still the same. I'll include the logs and screen captures as recommended by Bryce, however I'll include new logs and new captures from today as well. Again I'm no developer so I don't know what will or won't affect the code so better safe than sorry.

UPDATE: I unistall FGU and erased all data even temp files, Install everything again and still the error persists.

Yesterday: logs 13-08 + 2022-08-13.png

Today: Logs 14-08 + png.zip -- in this order: n1 (selecting arcane tricks), n2 (selecting spells not work), n3 (selecting wizard works), n4 (arcane triks now has spells after wizard), n5 (selecting spells works, counter does not)

I may not know what I am talking about , but if you try to use Homebrew content with the character wizard, it might not pick up your edits or changes. The official content will work with the Character Wizard. Have you tried using your new content with the older drag and drop method of PC creation too?
Also, did you try to create the new class with the current methodology of the newer class builder function in FGU?

I didn't implement the homebrew class features and spells yet, it's all just written. The normal players handbook arcane trickster is the one that doesn't work. However I'll create a new campaign and test if any other data is causing any errors.

UPDATE: I've just tried loading players handbook on a new clean campaign with no extensions and no homebrew things. It still doesn't work.

I will be honest - I didn't read the 1014 post to see if it was already addressed.

The Warlock (The Genie) as currently defined doesn't have access to all the spells this class specialization should have.

While working on a character for one of my players I realized that at least one spell, Burning Hands, wasn't defined to be taken by this new class specialization published as part of TCoE.

The character wizard is currently under review and upgrade. Thanks for the report, and I will add it to my list of things to look out for when testing the new upgrade.

When selecting Druid class in the Character Wizard, it lists "Druidic" as a language multiple times. Once you finish creating a character, it only shows up once on the actual sheet.

Hey there,

I'd like to bring a small detail to your attention.

The Character Wizard uses for its GateCheck the <state icon="button_dialog_cancel_down" and <state icon="button_dialog_ok_down".
While this is fine with the default theme, any other theme that uses distinct button down states , can potentially face minor visual inconsistencies, like with my Hearth theme, that you might know of.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1017481175582916618/1017481335180382278/button_issue_showcase.png

A search query within most rulesets did not bring these buttons up anywhere else but for the Character Wizard. Am I safe to assume, that they are unique to that interface?
If so, I can easily fix the described problem, but this could cause unwanted visuals if they are used someplace else (in the future).

Therefore I'd like to request , if the buttons are not already unique, to make them unique or solve this some other way.

Thanks :)

I am currently upgrading the wizard and the gate keeping buttons are on that list. I will take your consideration during this upgrade. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hello. I'm new here and I don't really know where to write about it, but I ran into a problem. in character wizard dnd5e, my players can't choose a race, they have an empty list there. I'm fine, I can choose both race and class, etc. player handbook is allowed for players to download. What could be the problem?

superteddy57
September 23rd, 2022, 12:57
It sounds like they don't have any modules loaded and you do. They will have to load modules just like you on their end.

I was able to track down the issue. I will push a fix for this with the weekly update.

Hey, I'm trying to create a race that gets 2 tool proficiencies but I can't seem to find way to make it work. I even tried to make it a subrace trait and although I can include the specific listed tools it only allows you to select 1 in the character wizard. Any work around?

Update: The glitch is actually worse than I thought, it seems that you can only create one "pick one of these" traits for each race.

Zacchaeus

Generally races don't have tool proficiencies so FGU doesn't expect to see that in a race and therefore there's no attempt to parse a general tool proficiency trait. Any races that allow such a proficiency (like Dwarf) have specific traits which FGU follows (in other words hard coded and not generally parsed text). The Character Wizard is written with the official books in mind and isn't really going to work too well with homebrewed stuff which wanders way off course of the official language. I'm not even sure that drag and drop handles multi tool proficiencies. Tool proficiencies generally come from backgrounds

Oh ok that makes sense. Yeah I'm trying to do build adventures in middle earth races. I guess I can do customized backgrounds for each race to supplement this if that's the case.

I'm running in to a couple issues when trying to use the character wizard to multiclass.

1) Samurai subclass for Fighter has a problem at level 3 with the "Bonus Proficiency" feature. The feature allows the player to choose from a list of skills, OR one language. If I choose a language it expects me to still choose a proficiency, and vise versa.

2) Having multiple ASI across different classes seems to be a problem.

I levelled up my Warlock to 10 and chose ASI (DEX). My DEX score is at 18

When I added Barbarian to level 4 and chose ASI, my DEX score went down to 16 as if my ASI from warlock didn't happen.

Demo license, did a level-up of an L1 half-elf bard to L2. Gained Song of Rest. Description says "each of those creatures regains an extra 1d6 extra hit point". Character sheet Action tab shows a Heal impact with 1d12 instead of 1d6. (according to text, supposed to be 1d6 initially, 1d8 at L9, 1d10 at L13, 1d12 at L17.) Note this was a level-up using character wizard level up function.

superteddy57
January 6th, 2023, 09:53
You can go into the action and change it. The data received when I created the actions was of the max level of the action. The actions were never intended to level up with the character as well and won't update with the character. This will need to be a manual process by the player to manually adjust those actions that need changing after leveling up.

Creating a character using the character wizard with the Folk Hero background does not add the tool proficiency for vehicles (land). Creating the character with drag/drop method adds the proficiency as expected.

Hello... new FGU user here. I'm trying to create a 5e Wizard. The Character Wizard tool looks different than the one in the (semi-official) YouTube tutorial. I realize it's gone through some revisions, but in particular the spell selection screen seems to be lacking some controls. It will let me select any number of Cantrips and Spells without indicating how many I've selected or how many I have left to select. In fact, it will allow me to select the entire list of cantrips AND spells. Whereas in the tutorial it seemed like you got a "4 of 6" sort of display when selecting spells.

What am I missing?

Thank you!

EDIT: my screen looks very different from even recent screen grabs in this forum:

The Wizard doesn't limit the amount of spells that you have picked or can pick. See video Twenty Eight here for details of how the updated Wizard operates. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?55797-How-do-I-in-Unity.
