Castellan's Guide to Arms & Armor

Troll Lord Games : Castles & Crusades
Accessory
A Castles & Crusades Library module for Fantasy Grounds Castles & Crusades Quick Start Rules (Free) Throughout mankind’s history, warfare has been an endemic part of his culture. From tribal beginnings to the rise of the Roman Imperium and beyond, man has waged war. The tools of this brutal trade have changed over the years, from simple stone to complex metal. They have changed as necessity dictates and experience allows. These are the arms and armor of the early medieval period of Western Europe. This work will concentrate on the weapons and armor suits and pieces common to Western Europe roughly covering 800 A.D. to 1200 A.D. This period saw the technology of the warrior emerge from the traditions of the ancient Roman world and begin to develop a uniquely European flavor, for a uniquely European warrior’s needs. For the player of Castles & Crusades (and many other RPGs) this work will give a brief perspective on the history and effectiveness of certain arms and armor types. All too often in RPGs, a weapon or armor type is given a weight and damage factor, but not WHY the particular weapon or armor piece was created. What was the reason for the Bearded Axe when the Roman Dolabra Axe was already invented? Why make a Longsword when the Legionnaire’s Gladius Shortsword was already around? Why carry a wooden shield when Iron ones were available? This work hopes to answer these questions in a concise manner without bogging the reader down in a plethora of charts or dry expositions! This library module divides the various weapons and armor types into a brief listing that gives the vital statistics of the item in question, followed by an annotated description and history to allow Castle Keepers to place the armament in its proper historical context. The Black Libram of Natarus

Troll Lord Games : Castles & Crusades
Accessory
The Black Libram of Natarus A Castles & Crusades Library module for Fantasy Grounds Castles & Crusades Quick Start Rules (Free) The Black Libram of Nartarus is a unique new installment to the Castles & Crusades fantasy role playing game. It is a book of wicked secrets, intended not as a supplement for the player characters to use for their own devices, but instead as a tool for the Castle Keeper to unleash new levels of magic, monsters and mayhem upon her jaded and unsuspecting players. The spells and items contained within this book are all of a decidedly wicked and evil nature. The Black Libram of Nartarus has its genesis in the Haunted Highlands campaign setting. The deities, items, rituals, and villains mentioned upon these pages are decidedly referenced from that setting. The magical lore found here is suitable for any mature themed campaign setting, played in by players mature enough to understand and accept its decidedly dark themes. Beyond Castles & Crusades, the magic items and spells within this Libram may be of use in any fantasy role playing game with little work on the part of the game master. A7 The Despairing Stone

Troll Lord Games : Castles & Crusades
Adventure
Castles & Crusades A7: Beneath the Despairing Stone A Castles & Crusades Adventure module for Fantasy Grounds Adventure Type: Dungeon Level: 7-9 Party: 3-5 characters Setting: Aihrde, Portable or Home-brew In that time before the All-father warded the world of Airhde, many creatures were already roaming his dreaming creation. These were the Val-Eahrakun. Of that order were the Oonmaukling, elemental lords of staggering power. Unklar, the Horned God, bound one of these oonmaukling to him and set it in a dungeon beneath the stones of despair; there it dwelt in a great temple, upon the edge of the dark lord's vision. Guardians he set there and they watched ever after, waiting in the timelessness of that place. But that was long ago. Unklar himself now lays in the Void and the dungeon, like so many of his creations, lies in ruins. The desolation of the temple leaves little to chance and its malignant inhabitants have their own desires and goals, often at odds with their one time master. Beneath the Despairing Stone Plays as a stand alone adventure or as part of the ongoing Road to Aufstrag series. The characters are brought back to the Black Tooth Ridge along its northern terminus in an area many fear to tread or even explore. They will travel far beyond the Black Tooth Ridge both in form and spirit for it is here, beneath the Despairing Stone, where devils and magic dwell whose origin reaches beyond the time of man and dwarf to that of the beginning of creation. From the makers of the Castles & Crusades roleplaying game comes the seventh adventure in the Road to Aufstrag Series; designed for champions and heroes who must brave a demon's wrath to destroy an artifact of great power. Adventure
Castles & Crusades A8: Forsaken Mountain A Castles & Crusades Adventure module for Fantasy Grounds Adventure Type: Plane Travel, Dreaming Sea, Some Overland Level: 8-10 Party: 3-5 characters Setting: Aihrde, Portable or Home-brew Leave the world behind, cross the ever turulant Dreaming Sea in seek of the legendary Forsaken Mountain, for here, upon the ruins of time lies the vessel of souls! A high level adventure module for Castles & Crusades! For the first time in many long years a cold wind blows from Aufstrag. The Ahargon Den, The Great Maw, the gates of Aufstrag, has opened and a host issued forth. Lord Coburg the Undying, Master of Aufstrag, self-appointed heir to Unklar Dark Heart has sent forth his servants. Rumor spreads across the land, far and wide, that they seek the Vessel of Souls. But all know the legend of the vessel of souls, stolen by a Confessor Knight before the Winter Dark War’s end and borne upon a wind of desire across the Dreaming Sea; there the thief set it at the base of the Forsaken Mountain, safe from all hands, all those who would misuse it. This vessel, possessed of wondrous power must never fall into the hands of the enemy, for if it does the power in Aufstrag must surely bend its will into the lands of the Empress. The Forsaken Mountain follows the adventures in the A series developed by Troll Lord Games, however the adventure can be used as a stand alone should the Castle Keeper desire. The characters must travel far beyond the realms of man and cross over into the land of dreams and thence into the realms of the forever dying, where creatures both horrifying and ambrosial dwell. Only the bravest can survive here for one’s fear will certainly be one’s undoing. A9 The Helm of Night

Troll Lord Games : Castles & Crusades
Adventure
Castles & Crusades A9: Helm of Night A Castles & Crusades Adventure module for Fantasy Grounds Adventure Type: Dungeon Level: 9-11 Party: 3-5 characters Setting: Aihrde, Portable or Home-brew The Tower of Horesk is an ancient edifice built upon the edge of the Grausumlands. Its dark stones sit upon an island-anchorage in the midst of a deep morass of bogs, saw grass, and gray, stagnant water. The tower sits like an obelisk, rising from the fog and waters. Adventure’s road brings those stout of heart to the Tower’s iron bound gate. Whether brought here by the trail of the Vessel of Souls or by pure happenstance, the Tower, perched upon the edge of no-where, beckons, promising wealth and glory. But this is no abandoned dungeon. Fire-light spills from the windows that adorn its stark stones, and noise from inside carries over the still morass. Here is wealth and plunder, but danger as well and those who would pry open its doors must approach with some caution for inside lies ancient powers who reside upon the material planes to feed upon the weak and innocent. Whether pursuing the Vessel of Souls as discovered in A8 The Forsaken Mountain, or coming upon the Tower through a regular adventure, A9 The Helm of Night offers characters plenty of adventure as they set out to explore, not an abandoned dungeon, but a tower filled with creatures most foul. The Helm of Night is an adventure designed for 3-5 characters of 9th-11th level. It is designed for a single night’s play or at longest over several sessions. It is fully compatible with any ongoing campaign game or played as part of the A series adventure modules. The Helm of Night is primarily an indoor adventure.
