I like that new style. What effects have you used to achieve it?

i set my soft brush to 50% opacity then manually shaded everything using a gausian blur every once in a while to smooth it out then doubled the layers bit by bit to tweak the contour. its not as hard as it sounds. it is actually pretty quick too.

Try putting the trees on 'normal' ground.. give yourself a small area around them that isn't snow.. or is 'light snow'.

If you went with conifers instead of deciduous .. maybe .. make points with half shaded circles?.. then they could still feel like trees instead of branches..

The biggest issue I'm seeing is the transition between the tiers of the slope...the contrast is extreme making it feel awkward.
