    10. Other Rulesets
    What is a ruleset?

A ruleset is a set of instructions that Fantasy Grounds follows to run your game. It describes what makes up objects in your games: player character (PC), non-player character (NPC), item, spells, etc. and how they interact with each other.

If you want to create a new object for your game, you can fill in the fields with information from your books and the program will understand this.

A ruleset does not automatically include any data. Data may or may not be available for a ruleset. Most of our commercial rulesets will also contain one or more data modules that represent the contents of rulebooks for that system. They may also include lists of monsters, items and spells.
Free Rulesets that come with FGVTT:
Only D&D 5E, Pathfinder 2E, Starfinder 2E, Star Trek Adventures, and Daggerheart have Character Wizard/Assistant.
Meaning, you'll need to drag and drop sheet data from sidebar windows into your character sheet in other rulesets.
    • D&D 5E - Ruleset, SRD Data module and Free Rules [2014 & 2024] (w/ Character Wizard). Has many [free] adventures. And [paid] Solo System Module Support: The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox 1 & TSAT 2: The Toolbox Expanded. As well as tons of [paid] Solo Adventure Module Support in dmsguild.
    • D&D 4E - I have no idea about this one.
    • D&D 3.5E - Ruleset and SRD data. WOTC won't give license for module conversion. Just use PF1E stuff or convert your own books.
    • AD&D 2E - Ruleset. Check Free Community Rulesets below for the Data module. Has a [free] adventure module.
    • Pathfinder 1E - TONS of free stuff on the Forge.
    • Pathfinder 2E (Legacy & Current w/ Char Assistant) - ORC Licenses for Player Core 1 & 2, Monster Core, GM Core. Has 2 [free] adventures.
    • Starfinder 1E - Ruleset only. Check Free Community Rulesets below for the Data module.
    • Starfinder 2E -Ruleset, Playtest Rulebook ORC w/ Char Assistant. Check Free Community Rulesets below for the SRD.

    • Cosmere RPG - Ruleset, Stormlight Starter Rules.
    • Fate Core - Ruleset & System Reference Document. [There are free PDF Solo Oracles for FATE in dmsguild but I never checked them].
    • Numenera - Ruleset only. No free data.
    • The Strange - Ruleset only. No free data.
    • NEW! Daggerheart - Ruleset, free SRD and Adventure w/ Char Assistant. (you can read them in My Library). How do Daggerheart and DND5E differ? & RESOURCES THREAD by Laerun. You can check free official DLCs [PDF] in https://www.daggerheart.com/downloads/
    • (!) Dune [Will Follow Next] - Quickstart Thingy [announced in steam] just like Fallout 2d20 and Star Trek.

    12. For Worldbuilders

    Creating Your Own World

Okay, I just checked the old free Worldbuilding extension called Player Agency and learned that it is discontinued [you are being missed, damned]. I said completely "free" but I have to add a replacement that only costs $1. Only if the extension's functions is what you want.
But if you don't wanna spend it either, you can always use the Campaign Module Creator to take notes in advanced story pages. It is in the right sidebar, upper left of Books window.

    Here's a video demonstration:

Creating Custom NPCs and Items within FGVTT

    Using FGVTT for Detailing Maps

This is not a map creation software so you can't create a map from scratch, unless you have some brushes and base image to begin with. But you can add anything you can imagine to a map, such as, text, drawings, pointers, icons used as pins with links to a story, an encounter, or to many other info blocks. Thanks to Unity's capabilities you can also add Line of Sight to obscure the maps for your characters.

    Quick Map Tutorial:

Dungeon Creation from Free Assets - Starts at 5:55

    How to Load Extensions

    0. Detailed how to guide is at top.
    1. Click the extension link.
    2. Just press "GET" after you logged in with your account.
    3. Then update the client from the launcher.
    4. When creating or entering an existing campaign for the first time, tick the box of the extension from the right side of the launcher.

    Using Custom Icons as Pins

    407f2634de9ad3b354dd7d90f9f3d3dc[2].jpg

By using Points of Interest extension, you can make a map with custom icons as pins. Then you can link them to the story pages, encounters, etc.

Points of Interest by Saagael: https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/1225/view

Here's the forum post. It is a bit tricky to use so read it well.
First drag and drop a story page to the right side of the extension window. Only then add the icons you downloaded.

Using Standard Cards as a Worldbuilding Tool

    Decked Out by Saagael:
    https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/910/view

    Forum Thread: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...antasy-Grounds

Decked Out is an extension for any CoreRPG based ruleset that adds a comprehensive and intuitive system for handling decks of cards in any game. Create decks of cards using tokens as card images, then load that deck up and deal out cards. All operations can be handled via seamless drag and drop, or through the radial menu. Supports your basic card actions: dealing, playing, discarding, and giving cards. Each deck can be configured to show or hide cards as they're moved around.

Included with the extension is a module that contains your bog standard 52 card deck, plus 2 jokers.

Nicholas Cavernous' Foundations - Free PDF Rules

By using Decked Out's card dealer and FGVTT's Campaign Notes, you can use the following free rulebook to create your world based on cards:

    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

Basically, you assign meanings to suits and ranks, then use them as Random Content Generators for each part of a fantasy world.

MORE INFO: Foundations is a solo worldbuilding and mapmaking game designed to help create fantasy settings for TTRPGs and stories. It uses real-world concepts from geography, history and anthropology alongside fantasy shorthand to help players create worlds that are fully realised, engaging and unique. It can be used as a worldbuilding exercise or a standalone game.

The google docs link is from Nicholas Cavernous' reddit post.

    Making Corkboards within FGVTT

Strings and Pins by Egheal: https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/1711/view

    Forum thread: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...-FGU-with-quot

You will find 20 images for cork boards. With Modern, 1920, Fallout, Blade Runner and even Medieval ambiances!

Also you will find 4 string brushes (yellow, red, green and blue) with 4 pins and 12 knots to simulate a detective board.

They will appear in your assets. Search for Pins, Strings and knots.

The knots are optional, they are here to make some variety for ending a string. You can easily end strings by doing a short string were you want to put the pin or a short circle that will look like a knot.

    Converted Solo Journaling RPG(s)

Thanks to damned, we already have TYOV converted:

Thousand Years Old Vampire: This is a basic ruleset for the Thousand Year Old Vampire RPG which can be found here https://thousandyearoldvampire.com/ and here https://timhutchings.itch.io/tyov
A creaking hunter among dust and cobwebs, you prowl the night places, seeking the souls on which you feed. You have done this since time immemorial, or so you believe; you have no memories of living as a man-thing like those you catch and eat. But human traces linger; your fingers trace clever arabesques in the dirt of your grave-place and with the flourishes come whispered songs in a language you've forgotten. Far away, in a museum, hangs your portrait in oil by a master five hundred years dead--you might have been lovers but the diary you kept then is long lost.

    FREE PDF / WEB ORACLES
An Oracle is a YES/NO Answer Generator (like an 8-ball) for the questions you will ask about a story when you create-as-you-go. When there is ambiguity or when you stuck, you ask your Oracle questions such as "Is my rogue character spotting any trouble in these slums?" and depending on the answer, you move the story.

And you use Random Generator Tables to find out about NPCs and their characteristics, environment, traps, if there is an encounter, and more...
+NEW! [PDF] Black Streams: Solo Heroes (dmsguild / FREE): While written for the Red Tide Campaign Setting and Sandbox Toolkit, this supplement is compatible with a wide range of old-school games. Within, you'll find a simple set of rules for running classic adventures with just a single PC. There's no need to alter character sheets or rework modules to make them survivable for whatever class your player has chosen- Solo Heroes gives you a handful of simple rules for turning such solitary exploration from a death wish in the making to a daring tale of risk and potential glory. A mini-adventure of The Yellow Toad God's Well is provided.

+NEW! [WATERMARKED PDF] HHSOLO 1 - The Hounds of Halthrag Keep (dmsguild / FREE): It is a story - the second oldest story - in which an innocent schmuck is plunged feet-first into the Flames of Truth and Adversity, to Die Badly or Win Big. That's all it is. It's hard. It's unforgiving. It's relentless. It's a complicated funnel character generator, for you DCC folks in the know.

+NEW! [ZIP: HTML/Links] The Saint's Tomb: A 5e Solo Adventure (dmsguild / PWYW): The Saint's Tomb is a single-player gamebook-style adventure for 5e that is playable in your browser. You make a 1st level character sheet, roll your own dice (though 2 of each are supplied in-browser), keep up with your inventory, spells, and HP, and click on options as you make decisions. It was written to help new players learn the game, but it should be fun for experienced players too. In the game, you'll investigate a mysterious figure who has a suspicious interest in the tomb of a dead priest. You'll battle the undead, figure out problems and roll the dice to save your city!

    * [PDF] ONE PAGE SOLO ENGINE. With Decked Out Extension's card dealer and some table conversion, this can be utilized for personal use. [search it in this thread].

    * [WEB APP] Mythic GM Emulator v1 - The Fate Chart ONLY: Rest of the system with 400+ tables and automation is in version 2 and it is on the Forge [paid], converted by Marmus.

    * [GOOGLE DOCS] Table of Tables by OrkishBlade from r/BehindtheTables

    * [PDF] SOLO EPA Playbook (Version 3) [dmsguild] - This book is simply a collection of advice that might improve your solo play experience, including some optional pre-made characters for EPA solo adventures but the methods apply to any setting.

Other Solo Journaling RPGs not yet converted:

Remember that, more interest means more chance for conversions to happen.

Most of the following Solo Journaling RPGs are paid but I'm listing them to give you an idea of what's out there:

    * Wizard's Tower [FREE] / Download / Example Journal: You play as a Powerful Wizard doing the things that such characters do... Researching Spells. Manufacturing (Summoning or Animating) Servants, Hiring Adventurers to defend your Tower or go on Quests for Knowledge and Artefacts. Ruling the domain around your Tower. Feuding with Rival Wizards...

    * Alone Among the Stars [PWYW]: A tabletop roleplaying game about exploring space and experiencing wondrous sights. Uses a standard 52 card deck and a six-sided die. For 1+ players.

    * Wandering Library [PWYW]: This is a solo journaling RPG, a game designed to generate prompts for you to answer in as much or as little detail as you would like. All you need is two six-sided dice and your preferred method of journaling. Using the tables provided, you will explore locations and meet different people, recording your adventures and encounters as you travel in your Wandering Library.

EDIT: I cut the rest of the [PAID] content to make room, which you can find here.

Feel free to do corrections, add free resources, etc.

    Happy Gaming!

    16. EXTRAS

MOAR Free Adventures for Paid Rulesets:
    8 Adventures
(!) Mature Advisory: contains graphic and written content of a mature nature, including violence, sexual themes, and strong language. Reader discretion is advised.
Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition: 5 Adventures

Following adventures are [free] but V:tM ruleset is [paid].

    * V5 Quickstart - The Monsters: In this quick-start scenario of Vampire: the Masquerade fifth edition, you and a couple of friends will portray inhuman vampires doing their best to stay unliving in a world filled with peril. In this particular instance, they have been tasked to find a killer before the increased police and civilian scrutiny causes trouble for the vampires in the region.

    * Auld Sanguine: Auld Sanguine is a story for Vampire: The Masquerade. It is best suited to a coterie of about four to six neonate Camarilla vampires, although it can be adjusted to use in an Anarch chronicle. The entire story takes place within a few hours from dusk to midnight on December 31st, making it a good game to play during a holiday or as a small side story between larger chronicle events. We can’t know the specifics of your gaming group, so we highly encourage you to modify Auld Sanguine to work better within your chronicle.

    * Midnight Kiss: Midnight Kiss is a story for Vampire: The Masquerade. It's best suited for a coterie of four to six Camarilla or Anarch neonates, and comes with a set of readymade characters. It can also be used as part of an ongoing chronicle. The entire story takes place during the night of New Year's Eve and has been designed for a single night of play.

    * Love Bites: Love Bites is a story for Vampire: The Masquerade. It's best suited for a coterie of four to six Camarilla neonates, and comes with a set of ready-made characters. It can also be used as part of an ongoing chronicle. The entire story takes place during the night of New Year's Eve and has been designed for a single night of play.

    * Reins of Power: Reins of Power is a short one session story for Vampire: The Masquerade. It is best suited for a group of four or five Anarch Kindred, although you can change details to make it fit different characters.

Werewolf: the Apocalypse 5th Edition: 3 Adventures

Following adventures are [free] but W:tA ruleset is [paid].

    * Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition Roleplaying Game Primer contains information to get a basic understanding of the world and gameplay. Take your first steps toward beginning your own story as a Garou.

    * The Isle of Splintered Dreams: A once-isolated caern on a wilderness island faces threats from human encroachment and a rival Garou pack. As pollution spreads and secrets risk exposure, a whispering Bane feeds on the despair of those who seek to forestall the profanation of nature. The current sept is unable to protect the island, and a dire need for new Garou to defend the caern and preserve its healing power before it's lost forever.

    * The Deepest of Wounds: To the Cult of Fenris, extreme violence is the only answer. There are no bystanders and everyone is either for Gaia or against her. There is no such thing as an innocent victim. The fall of the Fenrir into violent fanaticism didn’t happen all at once. It was a reaction to the increasingly desperate circumstances all warriors of Gaia face. Often, for particular Cult of Fenris packs or septs, a local tragedy or loss motivated them to go along with the extreme vision sweeping the tribe. Such a loss is the seed for the story of The Deepest of Wounds.

Love it, you might want to add in a bit about not adding extensions till the user is familiar with the base program because it already has a LOT of functionality built in. This is for the people coming from VTT's that have a much heavier reliance on extensions.

You can also borrow my analogy of like a kitchen table (campaign), next a bookshelf (the ruleset) of sourebooks and folders of maps and images (modules). And you can have as many kitchen tables as you want.
