Thread: DOE: Locations Extension

Need some guidance please.
I am trying to figure out how to structure things. I am going to start adding places for forgotten realms. Note:I own everything released by Wizards of the coast in print for 5E plus everything released (minus a few adventures) for fantasy Grounds.
So here is what I need advice on. On the Tabs you have the Tab "world", for forgotten realm that would be Toril. But then you have the other tabs and in forgotten realms you have basically the west coast. and it is broken into several over lapping regions for example "The Sword Coast." Citys, land marks and feature all seem to be straight forward but how should I go about organizing eh regions?Brice AKA BoringMadman

Think of it in terms of a hierarchy - each location should be the child of another location (up to "Toril" - or even "Toril Space" if you include the 2E Spelljammer stuff). The "problem" comes about only when you have a location that "spans" or lies in more then one natural parent location - think a forest that spans a political border or a river that runs through several countries. There are three basic strategies to use:
- Choose one of the parents and have the location be a child of that parent (ie the majority of the Old Wood lies in the Barony of Blackmoor)
- Split the location into two (or more) locations and have each one assigned to one of the parents (ie the Western Old Wood lies in the Barony of Blackmoor while the Eastern Old Wood lies in the Barony of Whitehill)
- Don't have the location assigned to any of the parents at all but treat it as being assigned to the parent's parent (or even parent's parent parent, etc) (ie although the Barons of both Blackmoor and Whitehill claim the Old Forest, in reality neither really holds much sway, so the Old Forest is said to lie within the Baronies' liege-lord's County of Greystone
And there is nothing stopping you from using two or three of these strategies together (on different locations, obviously).
Does that help?Dulux-Oz

Sorry, somehow I kept missing that part. Btw, I also noticed the dates aren't properly recording the months when plugging them into orbit position calculations, so the orbits keep on resetting every month. That was probably why there positions seemed to only be able to shift about 30 some degrees before going back to their original placements.

Quick question:
This extension is amazing but I see the loads of work ahead of me to prep this for use with Planescape. Has anybody added the Great Wheel cosmology planes or anything like that that I could use to get started?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but where do I find download links to these extensions? I know I must be overlooking it, but can't find it.

Thank you for indulging me. Somehow I was logged in but not logged in. Able to post, but not able to see the download link. All is good now. Thanks again, and thanks for your excellent work on these extensions.

I'm having trouble getting this to work with my 3.5e campaign. I've followed the instructions, but the DOE extensions don't appear in my list. Are they compatible with 3.5e?

Work fine for me. So, you put the .ext files into your extensions folder? And you turned them on in your load / create campaign screen?

Yes. DOEBase.ext, and the rest of the DOE .ext files are in my extensions folder. I cannot turn them on in the load or create campaign screen for 3.5e because they are not listed, but they are available for every other ruleset. Could it be because I have used a previous version of locations and weather? Doesn't seem right, but maybe there is a conflict?
