Yep, been waiting for this one for awhile. I've got the playtest docs and it looks promising.

Has anyone played it? How does it stack with the classic version?

Strangely there is also something called Traveller 5 due out shortly. Although I have no idea how these new products different from classic traveller.

Interestingly it is published under the OGL, so we should be able to create legal rulesets for it.
*puts it on the ruleset pile, along with many others*

Well I've printed out the PDF of the main book I bought through drivethru and am really impressed, its like an evolution of classic traveller, imho the best edition of Traveller there has been in decades. A return to the fast and furious game style that Traveller should be the equivalent of the SRD should be around shortly.

Heres a link to a pdf of the Mongoose Traveller SRD for anyone interested, done by Dirk D over at the mongoose boards:

Thanks Helios, it looks like they have taken a middle ground on the SRD: including enough to illustrate the game mechanics but not a full copy of the rules (for example, no careers are shown except a simple Scout class).
Cheers

I think thats because of limitations of the publishing license they got from Marc Miller (I could be wrong though), its probably a case of we own the mechanics but Mr Miller owns the rights to the official Traveller universe and has licensed it to be used in certain ways. They plan to use they're system for the Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd RPGs so we may see a fuller SRD for those games depending on the licensing with 2000 AD. Mongoose do have a Traveller developers pack for people interested in producing licensed third party products if some one wanted to produce an official ruleset, but I don't know how much interest there would be in a commercial product.
Edited to make more sense - too little sleep and not enough coffee.Last edited by Helios1001; July 7th, 2008 at 23:00.
