    5e 2024 Feat Savage Attacker

we rolled up new characters for DnD 2024 ruleset last night. We watched the Savage Attacker origin feat work properly several times (rolling damage dice twice and dropping the lower) just as it was added using the character wizard. Then mysteriously, it quit working.

Also, when using the character wizard it lists the feat with the words (Damage Reroll) in parenthesis like that. When you add it separately from Feats or try to use the Rob Twoey stuff (which is just a link to the new PHB rule for this feat) it does not have the words in parenthesis. Not sure if that has any relevance. The effect it adds look like its just text saying you can re-roll damage. no automation.

But I SWEAR on Odin we watched it work properly multiple times and were remarking that this helps because the re-roll feats and features can be a pain for the DM to manually adjust all the time.

It isn't showing any parenthesis for me either in the Character Wizard or in the Feats list. Also the feat isn't automated in the base ruleset. If you are using extensions or third party effects then I would suspect those as causing your issue. Make sure you test without extensions or anything else so that you can more easily identify the issues so that you can contact the developer of the extension or whatever to report any errors.

Right, it doesn't show the parentheses here during creation. If you finish the character, commit and Save and then look on the PC sheet. you will see the feat under actions with the parenthesis. I will look for an add-on. I have several, but I don't recall ever having one that does this. And this thing stopped working real-time as we were testing our new PCs on the combat tracker. It wasn't after a reboot or anything. I feel like I hallucinated it, but another player was doing it with me and saw it work. I recall it so clearly because he was using a sword that did 2d6 and it properly did 2 2d6 rolls at once and took the higher number. I thought that was neat because I had only ever seen "advantage" type adjustments with individual die rolls. I am not even aware of an add-on that can do this. I thought maybe they had built it into the ruleset but you say no. So I am really confused.

the 3 heal Icons I added. my workaround if it doesn't work is for the player to heal the bad guy for the amount of the discarded damage roll.

I see, it does add the reroll to the name in the actions tab. The inclusion of that might affect an extension which is reading the name of the feat. I just tested again and it certainly does not work in the ruleset; so I imagine an extension is doing it. Difficult to do I would imagine without a pop up since this can only be fired once per turn; so if you have multiple attacks you would want to choose which attack you got the double dice. It shouldn't fire automatically on any attack.

It's possible that you are seeing something else, like damage reroll attached to a weapon which does work or possibly a fighting style such as Great Weapon Fighting which also is built in.
