    Roll Description Formatting

    Similar to https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...ption-(coding)
Can the text in chat for various rolls be given different fonts, sizes and colors within the same output string? And if so, how?

What about the die roll results box?
Note, this is what we have today:
    Screenshot 2025-03-24 085531.png

    Examples of what we want:

    <Char Name>:
    <Ability> <Ability Score> <Skill> <Skill Score> Modifier <Value>
    Target <Score + Score + Modifier>
    <Result>

    Buck Dogers:
    Intelligence 55 Explorer -10 Modifier 20
    Target 65
    Success!

(And what about changing the font color based upon which results (i.e. Critical Success, Sucess, Fail, Critical Fail)?)

And the die box something like:

You can't do this in the current live release. But the release currently in test may be taking a step in the direction of making the cost message more flexible, based on this:

DEV][UPDATED] Comm - addChatMessage/deliverChatMessage - icon string/table field deprecated; assets table field added (each entry is table with type, name, w, and h fields)
Private Messages: My inbox is forever filling up with PMs. Please don't send me PMs unless they are actually private/personal messages. General FG questions should be asked in the forums - don't be afraid, the FG community don't bite and you're giving everyone the chance to respond and learn!

It is based on the font used to output the chat message. You'd have to define fonts that are different colors/size and then use whatever font you want depending on the roll. But you aren't going to be able to do it for the same output string. It is all or none for each chat message afaik.

Thanks! I still don't know enough to predict what this meant. We might play with it in Test and see what we can do

Thanks, that's what we thought at this point.

And to confirm; no way, yet, to change what shows in the die roll 'box'?

    * Each chat message can only have one font asset defined. If possible, I would not add extra font definitions, since they would not be accounted for in themes.
    * The die results box uses standard fonts across all die results for all rolls, controllable by theme.
    * Most rulesets use custom icons to denote special effects (success, fail, miss, hit, crit, etc.) for each message. (see D&D 5E for example)
    * For the dice icons, you can color the dice icons to denote positive/negative results, by setting the "iconcolor" attribute of the individual die. (Used for effect dice and temporary hit point dice in D&D) (Also, used as transparency for showing dropped dice, such as 5E ADV/DIS)

We're not looking to add new font files (other than for languages which we've already done). But I will look into adding results based icons. And we are good with the die colors and shading as is. We do have some rolls that only keep the highest and the shading is working perfectly as is.

Can we add to the die results box? Even if not changing the font (which is fine), can we add the target number and/or success/fail results?

You can change the total, whether the expression shows, dice icons, dice icon colors, per die font, per die font color, per die background color. That’s the extent of what you can change in the die results box.
