Mic Recommendations
Greetings FG Crew,
Our group recently finished a campaign and I am up next to DM. My current setup is 2 extra monitors connected to my laptop. The problem with this setup is that when I am looking at the largest monitor (where I run FG) I am no longer facing the mic in the laptop and people can't hear me.
I am looking for a recommendation for an external mic that will pick up my voice even if I am not looking directly at the mic. I've tried a bluetooth headset and did not like having my ears covered for a 4-5 hour session.
Cheers and thank you------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeti Blue. You can occasionally find them as refurbished models for the high $80 USD. Right now, Amazon us has them new for $99USD.

wouldn't an open back headset be better for you?
it's way more comfortable, it's freshier on the ears and depending on the model, really light.
best headset i've ever used was a Sennheiser Game One. I think they're called EPOS Game One now. An profissional audio technology brand made headset.
Take a look and see what you think about it, maybe you'll find old Sennheisers branded Game Ones which probably will cost less.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I like the idea of the Yeti Blue. When my other group starts back up, me play with people in person at the table and online.

I have both Blue Yeti and and Yeti Nano. I like them both. They are a bit sensitive so depending on how loud your background is where you are broadcasting, you might have to tweak the gain and/or play around with a noise gate, etc. but I think they are both good choices.

The Yeti Blue is definitely sensitive. I use mine with VoiceMeter Banana and have to dial up the noise gate to eliminate background noise.

What about earbuds? I use these and they work great for me. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001457633370.html

Just got a Yeti Blue about a month ago and I love it. I was using a headset before and I primarily DM. It is very sensitive and if you use Discord, I would recommend enabling the Noise Suppression by Krisp function. It cuts down on a lot of background noise all by itself. It is located next to the disconnect button and the button looks like a little EQ. I believe it only appears if you are actively in voice/video.
I also like not having the mic right in front of my mouth. I set my Yeti about 6" to 8" away and it sets at a 45 degree angle to my left. First time I used it, my players told me they though they had a radio announcer for a DM! :PCurrently DM for the 5E homebrew campaign, Sands of Al-Khemet (Sun, 9am-12pm EST) Alternating

Thank you all for the suggestions. I just pulled the trigger on the Yeti Blue. So psyched to start this campaign.

Hope you enjoy it! I would recommend, as a fellow DM, that once you get it installed, download the Logitec G Hub. Once you select your Yeti Mic, it will give you access to Blue Voice, a free program with various effect settings. It is not the best program for effects and settings, but it's free and it does everything I need it to do. I play a Ysoki (Rat) in our Starfinder campaign and use the Helium Chipmunk effect for his voice. I don't always run it, but when I do, it's good for a few laughs. Here are a few screen caps so you can see the app:
