    Race Creation Question

    Greetings All,

    A couple of questions ...

    1) Is there any way to have a race start with certain languages already set at a fixed die.
    Using the Effects notation it would be something like [Language = 3d]. However this does not seem to be working. In addition I would like it to be Language (Malaysian) for example so what would I have to do for that as well?

    2) My game uses the Specialisation Setting Rule. How do I start a Race with +1d with a specialisation already set. For example Survival - Antarctica.
    Thanks In Advance,
    D

    I don't think so, adding Survival is easy enough it would be

    [Language +3d]
    [Survival +Xd]

    1d = d4
    2d = d6
    3d = d8
    4d = d10
    5d = d12

    Yes I can do the + version without a problem, however each race actually receives 2 Languages which, as stated in the rulebook, should be defined as Language (Name).

    I tried creating new skills with the Language(Name) title, however I think spaces or () is causing problems as well.
    Thanks In Advance,

    Yeah, as far as I know, they will have to add 2nd language manually. Might want to use Multiple Languages rule instead

    You're further ahead than me, because I can't even find a way to create a skill for a Race that automatically populates the Traits tab - Skills listing. As to Language specializations; from recent explorations I discovered that there's no automation around specializations in this ruleset, so I'd be surprised if there's a way to automatically populate the skills listing with language specialization known by a race.

    Getting a skill to add is simple. You just need to use the Skill Racial Ability, then give it a new name, like Trained For War for a Human brought up in the Northern Kingdom, then on the second line you type [Battle +1d]. That should do what you want it to do.

    We do use Multiple Languages, and if you look in that Setting Rule, you Smarts/2 Languages at the start. Your native tongue is d8 and Free, the others are d6.

    So all characters will have a minimum of 3 Languages - Native + 2. In the world we use, one of your +2 is pre-defined.

    I love automation to simplify things for players, especially new ones, however if it does not work 100% I do not want it because that would just confuse people as well.

    "Oh by the way, you have to choose a specialisation for that skill, add another language skill, all before you can create your character."

    Whereas

    "Once you select your Race you will find your sheet populated with everything that you need to get started. Now spend your 12 points on skills"
    Thanks In Advance,
    D

    *shrugs*
    Guess doing without. Maybe under Setting Rules but that is likely to just increase Language skill. It would need edited before dropping a race to add another language skill. Probably just going to have to do by hand.

    Thanks for the reply - I'll try this out.
