The GM can export the character sheet and players can import them. Also some GMs leave the campaign up and running outside of game hours so players can access their characters and other game notes etc.

For myself, I like to do a little of both, and I make modules with campaign information that I give to my players who can load them in their own FG even if my campaign is not running.
