"Could not connect to host"... is that www.fantasygrounds.com or my GM's server

My GM bought the ultimate package and I am trying to connect to his computer. Apparently he has managed to log in and starter a campaign, and he is connected right now.

I am trying to log in with the DEMO version and I wrote the server alias under host name. Now I get the following error message

"Could not connect to the host Check your settings and verify the host address"

This error message is fairly confusing. As I see it it can mean several things

• I am unable to connect to the Fantasy Grounds server, and therefore the alias is never translated in to an IP-adress
• The Fantasy Grounds server does not recognize the alias that I wrote
• The Fantasy Grounds server recognizes the alias, but my GM is not connected
• The fantasy Grounds server recognized the alias and forwarded me to the IP-address of my GM, but his port is not open
• The fantasy Grounds server recognized the alias and forwarded me to the IP-address of my GM, but my port is not open
• The fantasy Grounds server recognized the alias and forwarded me to the IP-address of my GM, but something else went wrong

How can determine what went wrong?

Welcome to the FG forums.

To get more info, click the folder icon in the top right of the FG screen (this will open a file explorer window at the <FG app data> location) and then open console.log - this should show how far the player instance got in terms of resolving the alias, etc..

But, what this usually means is that the GMs TCP port 1802 is not open and forwarding to their computer. Note: only GMs need port 1802 operational.
