I played both BX/BECMI and AD&D.
I would like to see the Rule Cyclopedia perhaps on FG but in the meantime I strongly recommend you go the 2E route.
It is an excellent ruleset and there are some B/X adventures for it in the store.

I put together a prototype for a BECMI extension for the AD&D ruleset if someone wishes to take on the project. The skeleton sets up the basics needed. Basic attack matrix will need to be entered (I entered 1 as an example) and various other fiddly bits. I added some hooks in the ruleset so that this will work properly.
