Cannot download from a friend's server - at wit's end

It could be - but because your connection was nuked you are tying to download way more than the other players.
However if your wifes Mac could connect from the same location as you and do the same full download that is suggesting its not... but its still worth checking...

If your wife's mac has all of the files, you could try transferring the campaign data from her installation to your computer. See if that allows your system to sync up properly, I've seen this happen once or twice, but it was a while ago and the solution was to manually copy the campaign data from a working machine to the one that was not getting the updates.
