You guessed it.... Port Forwarding
Hey Chaps,
I'm a GM who has used Maptool and Roll20 and fancied giving FG bit of a run through so I can have my own opinion on it.
Sadly, I seem to have hit a hurdle quite a lot of people have, port forwarding.
I constantly get fails when I attempt to test the connection. I've allowed the app through the firewall, contacted my internet provider and got them to open up the ports for me at their end. I then created a static IP on the address but im still getting a fail on the test.
Is it likely that the only way I will get to use FG is if I use a VPN?
Also, does this mean I will not be able to get a successful test done and will need another player to try and see if I can get it working?
Cheers

Hi Marvin welcome to fantasy Grounds.
Some things to do. Check that your internet setting to make sure your network is set to private and not public and make sure that you have created a rule in any antivirus software to whitelist Fantasy Grounds.
If you can post a screenshot of your port forward rule that would be helpful and also can you do a tracert 8.8.8.8 and post a screenshot of the result. (Go to the search box at the bottom left of your task bar and type in 'run'; select the command prompt and type in tracert 8.8.8.8).If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

Hey Zacchaeus,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Settings are set to private, I have rules in defender.

I'll try and grab a pic of the port forward later.

You have 2 network devices between your computer and the public Internet. Do you have a WiFi router and another modem/router in your location?
If so, see this recent post here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...l=1#post392594
In that post substitute the Google WiFi device (192.168.56.1) with your device 192.168.0.1, and the network router in that post (192.168.0.1) with your network device 192.168.128.1
If you don't have two devices at your location, then it looks like your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is sharing IP address with their customers - a common practice. If this is the case, see this post for more info: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...l=1#post392520Private Messages: My inbox is forever filling up with PMs. Please don't send me PMs unless they are actually private/personal messages. Hey Trenloe,
I have a wifi router with me that I use. That is connected to an ethernet port that goes to another router at my location (That is shared and I don't have access too).
I think its the other thread for me then.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Hey Chaps,
Just an update for those with similar issues.
Basically, my ISP seem to be making an effort to try and get the ports open so I can host, so it might be worth speaking to them if you do have issues.
I have managed to join a friends game as a player and using Hamachi I managed to host for a friend. Just be-aware that you may need to mess around with your Hamachi firewall options to allow it through.
It can be a bit daunting for non IT folk (Such as me) but the chaps and chapettes on the forums have been a great help.
Cheers all

A further update for those with the same issue.
So, it seems that your ISP may be able to help you out, after sending them Trenloes advice they have managed to sort out the issue and I can now host a game without a VPN.
