    Issues installing Error 1223

    I am posting on behalf of the individual with the problem. The current issue is that windows cant locate FantasyGrounds.exe in the install directory, but both steam and the updater.exe refuse to install it. As a result the update cancels partway and does not continue. Every resource on the forums right now that we can locate only mention the issue with AVG antivirus, but this person does not have AVG, and with default windows antivirus has already cleared allowances and made new ones for FG. He is running Windows 10 currently. The error that comes up calls itself Error 1223 as stated the thread title.

    Have you tried downloading the installer from here and going from that?

    Windows Error Code 1223 is "Operation Cancelled by the User" https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...es--1000-1299-

    Step by steps of exactly what they do would help. Even screen shots would make thing much easier to resolve. Otherwise we are really just guessing.

    Some wild @55 guesses are;
    If they search their hard drive, can they find fantasygrounds.exe? What anti-virus and other security software are they using? Do they have local administrator rights? Are Parental controls enabled? Are they trying to install in a folder they have the correct rights to? Are they getting partway through the install and then cancelling it?

    Do they have enough space on their hard drive?
    Other than Windows Defender, are there any other anti-malware programs installed, like Malware Bytes or something?
    Is this a personal computer or a work computer? Corporate policies sometimes prevent installing games or unauthorized programs.

    As JohnD suggested, see if they can at least install the version from the FG website (even if they bought it on Steam) at least as a test to see if it can be installed at all. If that fails also, do any other messages pop up, like a security warning or anything?

    Weve gone with downloading from the website for now, and it seems thats a more reliable installer. Hard drive space was not an issue. In terms of anti-virus as mentioned before, its default windows defender, he has full admin rights, parental controls are disabled and the folder was within steamapps and has just as many rights as anything else that installs fine there. It may just be whatever download he got from steam just doesnt include the .exe but still has the updater and the steamlauncher version, unless its looking for the steamlauncher version to be named FantasyGrounds.exe instead of FGsteamlauncher.exe, which now that I think of it, might be the issue. Since everything is working now thanks to the web download, we wont mess with it, but it might just need to be renamed appropriately

    Steam is just a wrapper for FG. The client installs at ProgramFiles(x86)/Fantasy Grounds and the data files install to %AppData%/Roaming/Fantasy Grounds by default. So those are the folders that need full permissions. I’ve also known Windows Defender to create multiple rules for FG which eventually causes it to stop FG working, so do check that there aren’t multiple rules. If so delete all of them and create a new one for the FG install directory.
    If there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php
