The third suitor - and last, at least temporarily - that Nemir met wasn't notable, and it was an easy task to convince her parents that Mirdandir was who they should be putting their focus on. During the last weeks of winter, Nemir spent her time in Dale. She had meetings with Saxulf and Queen Una but more often than that, she took to wandering. Wandering alone to a patch of trees or stream to hear the birds and rushing water. Wandering amongst the marketplace, weaving among the people there and getting lost in the crowd, and observing as they all went about their lives. Orelon's lesson to her: that mortal lives were fleeting, played on her mind. How many generations would she see pass? If she tried to memorise all of the faces here, how long would it be until they all disappeared? It started to make sense why her people closed themselves off.

Beli met up with her in Dale so that they could travel to Ormal again and repair the lamp. He noticed that she wasn't her usual self early into their meeting, and asked if she'd been sleeping right, to which she found she could not lie to him. It was about Beldan, she explained. Beli nodded grimly. it had been a blow to them both. The grief in Beli's face told more than he did himself but he did offer up some words of understanding. They spent a while of the first part of their travels quietly comforting each other and lightheartedly reminiscing about their early adventures and some of Beldan's shining moments. In his company, Nemir felt more at ease.

As they got to Mirkwood, Nemir was careful to choose a path that not many traveled so as to avoid other elves as much as she could. Several jokes were made about the fact that she was smuggling him through the forest but they did make it without trouble. And, with a repaired lamp in hand, they made it back out of the forest, returning once again to Dale. Nemir regaled him with tales of small things that had happened over the winter. Some from Mirkwood but many details were missing in those ones, they were mostly from her observations of people in Dale. Beli returned with anecdotes in kind. During the travels and when Beli and Nemir were both staying in Dale, Nemir slept easier, less plagued by her thoughts and memories. Perhaps it would be alright for them to stay as they were for a little longer. They could enjoy this bond they shared for another few decades at least, where would be the harm in that? Perhaps she would know what to do by then.

Beli mentioned that Beldan's son: Bori was coming to the Lonely Mountain and that he'd sent out letters to the others as well so they could all meet him. Ori reportedly had a task for Bori and for them to undertake, one that was important business. They made plans to meet with their companions and travel together to meet them.

Eventually, the time came that the companions were once again reunited and they went to meet Bori. When they arrived, he was already in discussion with Ori, who said as they arrived "This is dwarven business but in a way it is business of all of the free peoples of the North. It is fitting that you are here." These words were spoken as he looked at each of the companions but as he looked at last at Nemir, his expression didn't match his message. The glare of being barely tolorated wasn't something that she was surprised by and she'd long-since matched this with her distant, noble stance, watching them. Achernar showed a little respect to Ori but announced himself as "Achernar, of Laketown - the city burned by Smaug." He said to Bori that he owed Beldan his life but saw that Bori, though hiding it, had an old anger lying under the surface at the mention of Beldan's name. Nemir nodded in acknowledgement to Ori and Bori. "Nemir, Lady of Mirkwood," she introduced herself, then stayed silent through the rest of the meeting.

The mission Ori gave was to find records in a fort on the old road. It was primarily a task aimed at Bori but since they had been planning to help with efforts to reopen the old forest road, the companions were suited to help with this too. And Bori was Beldan's son. Nemir... couldn't remember Beldan ever mentioning a son. Perhaps aiding him in this would allow them to understand Bori better, and by extention, perhaps Beldan too.

..."It started to make sense why her people closed themselves off."

..."Nemir... couldn't remember Beldan ever mentioning a son."

I really like how you're developing Nemir's character,
    Poppyseed.
    She's hitting upon key insights.
