    Control key/Story mode problem

I hope someone can shed some light

Having recently reinstalled FG I've noticed a problem when holding the Control key (either one actually) and activating Story Mode in the FG Chat bar.
Whilst I'm notified that the GM is typing in the chat window, I don't see any text and pressing enter results in zero output.
All the other modes work fine, as does every other aspect of FG.
The console is not throwing any errors.

At first, I thought it might be an extension or mod, so I switched them all off - Nope
Then I thought it might be the ruleset I was using, so I switched ruleset - Nope
Then I thought, maybe its some setting in Windows (Sticky keys or Filter keys) - Nope (both off)

Incidentally, I have not encountered any other problems with my keyboard or the control key with any other applications.

In short, pressing the control key in FG changes to STORY in the chat window and when typing, I am notified that I am typing (GM is typing), but nothing appears either whilst typing or after pressing enter.

I did do a quick search on the forum for a solution but...

    Thanks in advance.

You don't hold the CTRL button while you're typing to enable story mode. Type in the text without holding CTRL, then when you're ready to send, hold CTRL and press Enter.

I've just tested to be sure - yes, when CTRL is held down no text appears - but type then pressing CTRL + Enter to send gives story mode in the chat window fine. This is the way it's always worked.

If you're pressing and releasing the CTRL key and FG remains in Story mode then it sounds like there is something on your system that is locking the CTRL key (maybe even the keyboard). Use a keyboard tester (like this: https://www.keyboardtester.com/) to see if this is the case.

    Thank you Trenloe.

I haven't used FG in quite a while and the function of the ALT key misled me as it allows you to type whilst it is held (on my system) and rather blinded me to the more obvious procedure.

...and thank you for the links, I'll be sure to read them.

Going to close this thread, as it is 4 years old. Please open a new thread to ask your question in the House of Healing. You can link to this thread, if it's relevant.

Also, this thread was in FG Classic forum, which is no longer being updated as of last year.

    Thanks,
