Movement rule DnD 5E Circling a creature inside reach

    Hi all,

    Question.

I can see loads of discussion, loads of places regarding reach and attack of oppurtunity. I realize stepping out of reach gives an AOO in 5e, that is fine.

The question is.. Can you do what you want dancing around inside a creatures reach according to the standard rules? Thinking along the lines of circle strafing an enemy 30 ' a round, to be closer to a mage when you down the goblin you are circling?

From the 3.5 ruleset you would have a free 5' you could use without triggering AOO as controlled movement, I am inclined to keep that rule as a DM in 5e. If you do 10' you'd trigger an AOO.

Thank you in advance for any help

You can move anywhere within the creatures reach without triggering an AoO, so if you wanted to move behind the creature and stayed within 5' or whatever its reach is than you will be fine and not trigger an opportunity attack
