Question - with the discussion we had about making sure that spell damage gets changed at level 5, do the Ranged and Melee Modifiers need to be changed to match the basic ones presented. i.e. should I be Ranged +6 and Melee +6 on my spells or do they remain at +3?

They should be automatic, but the spells aren't. The modifier's on ranged and melee work off of ability mods, when those change so do the mods.
