Newb question on criticals

Well, this is an interesting question. I don't use average damage so I've never come across this before.
According to the PHB when you score a critical hit you roll all the attacks damage twice. However if you are using average damage you aren't doing any rolling, so do you actually get double damage if you are using average damage? It seems ambiguous to me and perhaps FG is doing it right. I can't find any kind of definitive answer on the internet so far.
If it should be doubled then this is a bug and will need fixing.
(It appears that even Shift-dragging the damage doesn't turn it into a critical either - which it normally does).

EDIT: I've found the rule; it's in the DMG p246. So apparently what happens is if the damage is stated as say 5 (1d6 +2); then on a critical you get 5 + the 1d6 damage. So FG isn't doing that and so I'll report it as a bug.
