Looking for Matt Mercer's 5e Blood Hunter Class 2020 module
Hey there,
Matt Mercer has updated his Blood Hunter class for 2020 and I would like to play this class. It's this class:
https://www.dmsguild.com/product/301...for-DD-5e-2020
My DM has approved and has an older version of the Blood Hunter that doesn't work entirely correct.
We both have a fantasy grounds license and we have bought the book on dmsguild.
Does anyone have a FantasyGround module that's updated lying around?

Even if they did unless MM has given permission for it to be distributed it can't be.
If should be straightforward enough to create your own version for personal use. See here on how to create or edit a class. https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forum...Creation-VideoIf there is something that you would like to see in Fantasy Grounds that isn't currently part of the software or if there is something you think would improve a ruleset then add your idea here https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featu...rerequests.php

You can always try and see if Matt will give his permission, but I believe others have tried and never gotten a response.

If he has already given permission for his blood hunter class, why would that permission stop being valid when he updates the class to a new version?
He's quite a busy and famous guy who clearly cannot be reached, as a lot of people have tried, who has given his permission to port the blood hunter class to fantasy grounds.
I would say it's unreasonable to expect that every single update or tweak he makes to the class requires new permission?

You may consider it unreasonable; but I would prefer that such permission was sought and given before anything of this kind was distributed. We take copyrite extremely seriously here in order to make sure that any licences that Smiteworks have are not put in jeopardy.

But he's already given his permission twice. Does he have to keep giving permission for each update?
In so doing, you'll make it impossible for this module to ever exist. A busy guy like Matt isn't going to keep repeating his permission over and over, we can't even reach him. Shouldn't his permission stay valid until revoked?

Lawyers and lawmakers disagree with you on the unreasonable thing.
His old permission doesn't apply to the new version for the same reason that legally a new edition of an old textbook or novel or whatever gets a new copyright date and ISBN. It is a different product and the author might want to keep the new one under a different level of control. The law and court precedent protect this right of authors regardless of what fans might prefer.
His permission stays in effect for the versions he has given permission to. But it does not legally apply to new, especially changed, versions.
And I'll point out that there are videos on how to make a class in FG, and it isn't hard.
Start with this: https://www.dmsguild.com/product/170...d-Hunter-Class
And follow the instructions in this video: https://youtu.be/rV0vH1eeUZM
It's an 18-minute video and he creates a class completely in that time. You can copy/paste everything you need and if you start from the old version which I linked, lost of stuff is already done for you. You just need to implement the changes.Last edited by GavinRuneblade; October 28th, 2020 at 18:25.
