AD&D 1st/2nd Edition

I'm looking at this as a possible alternative to OpenRPG but was wondering how difficult it would be to 're-write' it to support AD&D 1E/2E?

I don't play, nor plan on playing, 3E (or any variant) so the ability to move it to 1E/2E would be great if it can be done.

Yes, it can be done. With the d20 3.5 ruleset as a reference, it shouldn't really be too difficult, but writing it all will of course be a bit of work.

When you look at it, all the story book, image and item sheets are already generic in nature, and the character sheet inventory and spell pages are pretty close to the older sets. If you don't mind starting off with either a simple NPC sheet or just the character sheet for the players, you could get by with just a new main page for the character sheet.

Of course, there is nothing like the d20 license for the earlier editions, so they couldn't benefit directly from spell and monster reference databases, and no one except Wizards of the Coast can really give any official support for them. You'd naturally get our support for any problems or questions you'd have while doing the technical bits, whatever the content you're working on.

So, if we were to rewrite the database files holding the information particular to this version of our beloved game, we could use the program to be wholly 1ed or 2ed (or for that matter Original/Basic/Expert D&D) compatible?

It would be a lot of work, for sure. What tools would a person need to perform such an action?

After play-testing, would your company support distribution through your download page of these files?
