Any D&D Collectors here?
Hello all, as you all know I'm an avid fan of D&D, having played it now for some 32 years Yes, I'm an oldie.
The journey for me started with the original/classic D&D back in the late 70's early 80s when I was introduced to the Holmes Basic/Expert sets by my god father at the age of 10. My passion for D&D was firmly cemented by the time Mr Moldvay came along with his editions of the Basic/Expert sets and by the time the BECMI box sets were out I was already DMing my own campaigns based in Greyhawk. Why am I telling you all this? Well along the ways I have procured and acquired various content, material, some rare, some exotic and some not so and thought it might be fun/interesting to share pictures of my collection in the hopes it will encourage others to do so. I like to think of my collection as a preservation of a slice of roleplaying gaming history and it would be a shame to lock it all up never to see the light of day so instead I start this thread in the hopes we can start an interesting dialogue amongst friends.
And so I will kick off the thread with a history of D&D by bookshelf starting with the original releases and working upto modern day.
Bookshelf number 1 from my collection:
Left to Right
- Dungeons & Dragons Rules for Fantastic Medieval Wargames Campaigns Playable with Paper and Pencil and Miniature Figures (2nd Printing 1975) - the original 3 booklets but the woodgrain box is a replica as mine got destroyed and yes, that really was the title of the game when it launched in 1974 - what a mouthful
- Dungeons & Dragons Rules for Fantastic Medieval Wargames Campaigns Playable with Paper and Pencil and Miniature Figures (5th Printing 1975) - the original white box
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (Holmes - UK Edition 1st Print 1977) - the first revised edition of D&D by J. Eric Holmes who was a teacher and a D&D fan but felt the original books were not new player friendly - he was right.
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (Holmes - US Edition 2nd Print 1978) w/Dice
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (Holmes - US Edition 5th Print 1980) w/Dice Chit Card - due to short supplies of polyhedral dice TSR shipped chit cards instead.
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (Moldvay - US 8th Print 1981)
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set (Moldvay - US 9th Print 1982)
- Dungeons & Dragons Expert Set (Moldvay - US 1st Print 1981)
- Dungeons & Dragons Expert Set (Moldvay - US 2nd Print 1982)
- Dungeons & Dragons 40th Anniversary Reprint of the original woodgrain box Set with rulebooks I-III and supplements IV-VII (1st print 2014)
The two little miniature sets are part of the D&D 25th Anniversary celebration reprints of some of the D&D and AD&D 1e classics of that time. I have several of the box sets and nearly all the reprints of the AD&D rulebooks. These are really great items, 1/7th of an inch in scale but all complete and readable (albeit with a magnifying glass), even the maps are all included for the adventure sets.
You can just see the top of my AD&D 1e rulebook collection but you will have to wait for that one as we have a couple of other shelves to go before we get to AD&D. 1e

This is awesome. Being pretty much as old as you (actually I'm a lot older if you were only 10 in the late 70's ), I too started back in the early 80's when my kids were old enough to read
However as each new edition game along I sadly sold or gave away the older editions. I still have a pretty fair collection of modules stashed away under a bed somewhere, but my wife has banned me from accessing those

My girlfriend thinks I am nuts about my passion for this hobby (she's probably right), particularly given the amount I've spent on it over the years! - Prior to the arrival of Ebay (and in my youth) I spent a fair amount of time overseas for work and would often pickup items on my travels - for example whilst in Portugal once in the early 90s on business I picked up a basic set in Portuguese, not that I can speak any Portuguese, but hey its D&D and I couldn't resist. I've managed to retain a fair amount of gaming materials over the years but I've also traded quite a bit over the years. Its also fair to say that I am hoarder (true dragon so as to speak). Damn, still got my lunch money from 6th grade ...

I've been playing since the red box in the 80's. Over the years I've managed to corrupt my wife. She won't play RPGs with me (but she will play board games of all sorts), but 2 years ago she was quite happy when she won the bidding war for a 3rd print wood grain box at GenCon.

I'm a collector as well. I didn't get into it until AD&D back in 1980-1981 though. I still have several of the first print run of the 1st edition. I also have moat all the later print runs of 1st ed., most of the 2nd ed. a metric ton of 3 & 3.5 ed. some 4th, and all of the 5th ed so far.

The woodgrain box is a nice win, I've seen 3rd print sets sell for as much as $3000 each on Ebay when they spring up. This next picture should look very familiar to you then, next bookshelf:
Left to Right
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Rules Set (Mentzer 12th print 1983) - Red box B set of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Basic Rules Set (Mentzer 12th print 1983) - Red box B set of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Expert Rules Set (Mentzer 1st print 1983) - Blue box E set of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Expert Rules Set (Mentzer 1st print 1983) - Blue box E set of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Companion RulesSet (Mentzer 1st print 1984) - Green/Turquoise box set 3 of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Companion RulesSet (Mentzer 1st print 1984) - Green/Turquoise box set 3 of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Master Rule Set (Mentzer 1st print 1984/5) - Black box set 4 of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons Immortals Rule Set (Mentzer 1st print 1985) - Gold box set 5 of BECMI
- Dungeons & Dragons, The Classic (Version A 1994)
- Dungeons & Dragons, The Classic (Version A 1995)
- Dungeons & Dragons, The Classic (Version B 1996)
I am expecting some additional items soon too, another Master Rules Set and Immortals Set as well as the elusive and very rare Wrath of the Immortals set, all in original shrink-wrap and in beautiful condition. That will complete my BECMI and extended Classics/Immortals collection.
Nice, 1ed remains a personal favourite of mine although the new 5th edition has sparked my curiosity and looks like it could take the lead. I too have 1st prints of the AD&D rulebooks including US and UK true 1st prints of the PHB, MM and DMG But more on AD&D in a bit, my complete 2ed collection, the core 3rd edition rulebooks that I have, complete 4th and 5th editions sets laterFG Project Development

I wouldn't say I was a collector, but I have built up quite a collection over the years (36 now - even more than you, Zeus)! Here are the top two shelves from one bookcase in my study:

Unfortunately, my copy of the original white box set (that I bought at Games Day '86) went missing in among various house moves some years ago. But I still have the very rare module ST1, "Up the Garden Path".Last edited by Callum; April 11th, 2015 at 21:59.

Not much of a collector, or one with a long history, but this is part of what I've accumulated in the years, ever since I discovered Fantasy Grounds.
Attachment 9580
The DnD 3.5 books I started gathering whern I first discovered Fantasy Grounds. I've enjoyed reading the Forgotten Realms ones most.
When 4e came out, I habitually got every book that came out for that as well.
Attachment 9581
I had the opportunity to play in a few Savage Worlds games on FG too, so I got the books for that. Then saithan ran a GURPS game for us, so those books got picked up along the way as well. A little Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and the Pathfinder core rolebook in there too.
Attachment 9582
New World of Darkness books. I love anything horror or supernatural, and World of Darkness just clicked for me. The Hunter series turned out to be my favourite, and I got to play in 2 nWoD games over the years. Great fun.
Attachment 9583
This is the latest addition; DnD 5e. I picked up every book since the beginning, novel or rulebook alike, and that whole bookcase is more or less reserved for 5e. (It's closest to my computer).
There's one shelf I didn't get a pic of, which is the miscellaneous stuff I find that interest me. Some old Ravenloft stuff, some oddball adventures, and some general fantasy stuff.
So all those books pretty much chronicle my years with Fantasy Grounds. Never played one single in person game. I wonder what I'll have collected 20 or 30 years from now.
