Have you tried installing FGC through Steam?

You will have to re-assign the Updater executable path for Unity after initial install... other than that, works OoB (I turn off the virtual desktop, I find it annoying)

If you download FGWebinstall and open it with Wine (whichever version is newest) it works out of the box without any tinkering.
Running it via steam using Proton also works without any settings.

I was able to get Wine to work with Mint 20 Cinnamon. Initial attempts with various versions of Wine from the Mint Software Manager failed. The newest version of Proton worked but performance was atrocious.

I followed the command-line process listed here: https://www.linuxbabe.com/linux-mint...inux-mint-19-1 And installed the WineHQ stable build. FG worked at this point. I believe the difference here from all my previous attempts is 32-bit windows support wasn't part of the default installs through the Mint Software Manager.

I followed up by installing Playonlinux from the Mint Software Manager. FG worked with this as well.

I then copied over existing campaigns from my old Windows install. The path on these were a little weird. I wasn't able to browse into the bottle and find the folders. I ended up searching my whole HD for the campaign folder. And I believe they were located deep in /proc.

Once the campaign's and extensions were restored. I was able get into FG and access them. All extensions worked as expected. I also tested with 2 players connected to the existing campaign. The only issue I found was that the player Tokens didnt carry over. I had one crash, but I believe it's because I tried to drag a token from one map to another instead of from the combat tracker to a new map.

So after an upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 Fantasy Grounds is .... half crashing? basically, it crashed when I try to run 5e games. I can run Fate just fine, but if I try to start either of my 5e games (or start a new campaign) it bombs out as follows:

If it were all of fantasy grounds crashing, that would be one thing, but I can run Fate games just fine. If it were only my old campaigns, I'd suspect a database issue, but .... this confounds me.

I would uninstall and reinstall, but I am not sure how to uninstall everything using wine, actually. I know I'd need to clear it out more or less completely to allow for a new install.

    Thoughts?

I would start by deleting 5e.pak and corerpg.pak files from your ruleset folder and running a new update. Maybe you have a corrupt ruleset.

Thanks for the thought, but no dice. I also tried deleting most of my vault with no success. Same error.

Hmm, well I can take some WAGs that can at least try and identify just what does and does not have problems

You could try new campaigns of various types, CoreRPG, Savage World, etc. Though that really is just reaching. I really have no idea what would cause one ruleset to crash and not another.

Is there any clean reinstall process for linux? I have my campaigns backed up well enough.

I'm guessing part of the problem is here:

E: The repository 'http ://ppa.launchpad.net/wine/wine-builds/ubuntu focal Release' does not have a Release file.

EDIT: For the record, I did a full uninstall, then cleared all all my old data plus any temp files and anything that might have been holding onto old data. I went through the whole install process again and have had exactly the same problem. Again, D&D is the only thing not working here. Other games load fine. this is weird.

So it means that fantasy grounds is running, but something about the D&D part is not. I don't know enough to know if that's a different part of the code or not.

EDIT2: For the record, after trying the command line install I cleared everything out again and tried a PlayOnLinux install and got exactly the same error again (I also didn't put in my license code just in case something in there was messing it up, but I couldn't even run the demo campaign).

EDIT3: Just to keep this as clear as possible, I tried this install again on a virtual machine on GCP running ubuntu 20.04 and I got exactly the same error as before. It'll run anything EXCEPT D&D. Weird, but consistent. I suppose it's possible that something I own (one of my modules or something) breaks D&D on ubuntu, but I can't see how, given the way they're loaded.

EDIT4: i WAS able to get it running on an ubuntu 16.04 system on GCP. I don't know if it's baked into ubuntu 20.04 or if there's something about my account and D&D, but here we are.
