Try putting the trees on 'normal' ground.. give yourself a small area around them that isn't snow.. or is 'light snow'.

If you went with conifers instead of deciduous .. maybe .. make points with half shaded circles?.. then they could still feel like trees instead of branches..

The biggest issue I'm seeing is the transition between the tiers of the slope...the contrast is extreme making it feel awkward.
