Server was restored to service inside the time window. I had to bump a couple of groups off onto another server but all is well.

You don't, sorry. We leave it as semi-permanent so that we don't end up in a year with a stupid amount of channels that we don't know if they're active anymore or not. The server get's rebooted rarely (2-3 times a year) so we feel the down-side of active GMs having to, a handful of times a year, quickly recreate their channel again is a small price to pay in keeping only active channels on the server.

After the last reboot, I lost the Priority Speaker for my channel. I'm not sure how I got it the last time (other than asking here), but it would be nice if it was default for all channel creators/admins. At the least, I would like to have it back on my account.

If you created the channel you are an admin of that channel. right click on yourself and add as Priority Speaker.
