I can buy the free stuff, but get an insufficient funds message for other things. (The currency seems to be nameless, and I can't find a link that explains how to increase your balance.)

How do I get more of whatever that is?
If you click on the Treasury label with the gold counter next to the top right of the Forge screen, it will take you to the screen to purchase Forge gold.
