Added to the FG Wiki (https://oberoten.dyndns.org/fgwiki/index.php/AD%26D) preserving the forum context in which it was posted, rather than a direct link to the ruleset itself.
Thank you, but you could have downloaded the file and hosted it directly if you wanted...
What shocks me, is that it has been downloaded 28 times so far, and I have yet to get a single thank you. :-)
Thank you! I downloaded the file to check the link was working, but I know the effort that goes into a ruleset and you have my gratitude for converting AD&D, together with another poster (whose name elludes me) who worked on the earlier version.
The other poster would be 'leozelig' and much of the work in this version should be credited to him. We got a rough copy of the work he had done, and have cleaned up the code (a little, he actually did a very good job).
The version that is out now is a rushed version to get it out there for the people who have been patiently waiting for eons for the product. We do plan on adding some more features, better graphics, and cleaner code in the end.. but figured "Hey, functional is functional".
Good Job. :) I am thinking that if I ever *DO* run any form of Dungeons and Dragons this will be the ruleset I will most likely use.
*grins* I just happend to LIKE the quirkiness of old 2nd ed. :)

Thank you Erwunscht! Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you! :)
I will download it and try it out tonight immediately :)
*bounce*
Making rulesets is time consuming. I don't play AD&D anymore, but I downloaded to check it out. Thanks for you effort unerwünscht
LOL.. I don't play AD&D anymore either, that's why I was hoping for some open playtesting before releasing the rule set :-) But I couldn't find anyone to test for me.... So now I am waiting for the bug reports, and working on the cleaner graphics while I wait.
As I am sure most of you have noticed, the icons were cropped and thrown together in a matter of minutes, and the background tiles, but not quite correctly. Not to mention that the D&D logo is not quite the correct one. I am also looking into the legal factors of how much can be automated.
Unerwunscht, is there anywhere I can submit bug reports/remarks? Can i mail them to you in a PM? Nothing shocking so far :)
The best place to send them would be the host thread on GamingArmy.
Next best place would be here.
Right.... So over 100 downloads and not much feedback.
Well, as I have no idea what the bugs are (or if there actually are any). I will be starting on a better looking user interface in the next few days. This time to get one thats not so rushed looking.
From what I saw so far there were few bugs (I did get an error when dragging weapon damage from the charsheet to the chatwindow, something about damagebonus being NULL I think), but I haven't really had time to do more testing and I suspect the error may have been linked to my older FG version (still using 2.2 I think). Also, the AC calculation in the charsheet sometimes acts weird when switching between the first and second tab. I think that's all I encountered so far.
Hey, thanks unerwünscht!
My FG group is going to start up a game with this in the next couple weeks. I'll be sure to post any bug reports. Again, thanks a lot for the upload.
Can someone please generate a mirror for the download and and relink the wiki to the mirror? Very soon we will be updating GamingArmy to its newest platform, and the post everything is currently linked to will be broken. I will have a new download link for everyone shortly after the site update.
Just so you know, all accounts will still work, and noone will actually lose any posts, just the locations of the posts will change, and thus the location of said download.
Check your PM's.Quote:

The wiki has been updated too.
Thanks, Unerwünscht, my English is not good enough to thank you properly, or give you the feedback but thank you again.

Is this the 1st Edition or 2nd Edition?
Its a generic AD&D character sheet, and its been forever since I have played AD&D at all, but do not remember any difference in the character sheets from 1st to 2nd ed AD&D.
But I could be wrong.
D&D = 1st edition, AD&D = 2nd edition.
So this would be a 2nd edition ruleset. One thing I find still missing (and the reason I am not using this yet) is a lack of library modules, especially the spell information.
Well, there where actually two editions of AD&D. The main difference was that the 2nd ed of AD&D had skills. As for library modules, since the AD&D stuff is not available under OGL, you'll have to do create those modules on your own. The best bet is to use the 2nd ed AD&D RTF files that TSR sold in the end of the 90ies and reformat them into XML files.Quote:

I've just had a look at wikipedia and 2nd edition wasn't released until 1989 apparently.Quote:

Spyke
Zabulus..., Spyke is correct.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons [1st Edition] isn't capatible with Advanced Dungeons & Dragons [2nd Edition].
The ruleset that unerwünscht is offering is Advanced Dungeons & Dragons [2nd Edition].
Too bad, I had my hopes set on 1st Edition.
Well, if you could give me a list of what would need to be changed on the character sheet to make it 1st edition, I would be happy to go through and make those changes, and release them as well.
That'd be really cool - but eek... that's a rather long list. ;)Quote:

1st Edition AD&D is on my list of rulesets to develop, probably using a variant of OSRIC, but not in the immediate future.
The advantage of OSRIC is that you can also distribute the reference material, as it is OGL. Labyrinth Lord is the Basic D&D (BECM) equivalent, and that is on the FG Wiki as a free ruleset, with the Beckham extension for added authenticity.

An extremely - unwieldy - long list.Quote:

Well, how about this, can someone find me a good PDF of the first edition character sheet, and maybe I can work off of that?
Well... that's kind of the thing Unerwunscht... there wasn't just one character sheet really. There were sheets designed for specific classes, each with slightly different layouts due to the class requirements. I can provide you with copies of each sheet if you like however.
Refer to this .PDF if you are serious about creating the 1st edition.Quote:

Ok... I should have some free time in a few days to take a look at what can be done.

But like you, I was well into GURPS by then.

I have a question about this rules set.
Is there a version of it that works?
I create a new campaign under the latest version of FGII
I create a character in a localhost system
I create an item for a weapon in the combat section I give it values for +1 for all bonuses, I give it dice for s/m and for L targets
Then I try and drag the die to roll damage.. wham script error.
Script Error: [string"charsheet_weaponlistitem:damagedice.sm"]:1: attempt to index field 'damagebonus'(a nil value)
I then try using the combat tracker and incrementing a round.
WHAM script error
Script Error: [string "scripts/combattracker_entry.lua"]:150: attempt to call field 'GetValue' (a nil value)
I'd love to get this rules set working properly... anyone have a version that has these sorts of issues fixed?
I'm surprised a lot of the rules and source books are not public domain. Can you still buy 1st / 2nd Edition rules publicly (not collector or eBay) ?
Nope - a real problem for software and certain types of books - publisher keeps rights, but quits publishing. However, in this case, there is OSRIC, which is basically 1E rules.
Thanks for a good job! It's a great choice for newbies D&D players.
i'm using it but i found some differences between the official ruled of AD&D 2nd edition and the second edition ruleset you can find on wikiFG:
1. using normal bonus the AC increase instaed of decreasing
2. Initiative check using any enchantment or weapon is always +1 compared to the correct value
3. a couple of optional rules parameters like max leverage are not listed in the characther sheet
Is that done on purpose?
