yeah roll 36 through 100 should have an item thanks
I've got it built in. I'm going to wait and finish this token update before I send it over to NG.
I have seen this error posted years ago but I am not able to find the fix as my google fu as failed me.
seems to only occur when i place a character on the map
[ERROR] Script execution error: [string "OSE2:scripts/token_overlay_manager.lua"]:46: attempt to index a nil value
[1/5/2026 2:52:54 PM] s''
[1/5/2026 2:53:03 PM] [ERROR] Script execution error: [string
using only OSE2 the SRD with a random fg map
Ok thanks. I will take a look.
OK update and give that a shot. May need to remove tokens from Map and re-add them.
For Fighter levels 7 thru 9 I am seeing the breath weapon saving throw = 11 on the character sheet, but in the book the saving throw = 10. Would you please check on this? Thanks.
You bet thank you for letting me know.
I sent it over to NG. All the saves for breathe after level 7 were wrong as well.
Thanks for the quick response!
Bayne, Trying out the OSE Basic Ruleset. While doing Character Creation, I can't seem to find any of the adventuring gear listed anywhere under "Items," (i.e. Iron Rations, Backpack, Pole, Thieves Tools, etc). Weapons and Armor are there, just not other equipment. Additionally there isn't anything listed under vehicles. Is this deliberate or an oversight. Thanks!
Bayne, also noticed another error that occurred. I created a dwarf PC, put him in the combat tracker and then put him on a map. One of his abilities (under the abilities tab) is Infravision (Dwarf) which gives him 60ft. However, on the map when I try to use him with Player Vision Preview, he does not have the ability. Additionally, the infravision doesn't show up on the Main tab under senses.
Yeah there are no vehicles but i created the record to homebrew. What module are you using? The paid tome from NG has them all.
I double checked the type is "gear" and all are listed. As far as running basic fantasy just type it into the senses block. Advanced Fantasy does it for you but if you use the no race option the player needs to do it. You type "Infravision 60" in the senses block.
The SRD is added to let people play around with it and see how it works, I do not plan on adding anything additional to the SRD. The Tomes are 100% supported as buying them supports my work, Necrotic Gnome, and Fantasy Grounds.
Bayne, Thanks. Still no gear. Nothing appears for any of the other items in the drop down menu: No Gear, Magic, Other, Potions, Ammunition, Staff, Wand. Weapon, Shield and Armor do appear when I sort that way.
I just did an update to see if it fixed it. Still the same. No gear or other equipment.
I'm running Keep on the Borderlands, converting it from our Tabletop game to Fantasy Grounds.
Nevertheless, I'll be picking up the two advanced tomes (Player and Referee) today, , was trying out the SRD ruleset for conversion from my Tabletop Game.
Like I said you need the paid Tomes. The free SRD is not complete it is just enough for people to see how it works.

Keep on the Borderlands, World of Greyhawk, and OSE SRD
I think maybe your not reading my posts. The SRD is not everything.
Lol! I'm reading them.
That's just not appearing for me with the SRD.Quote:
I double checked the type is "gear" and all are listed.
FYI. I already picked up the two tomes and will switch over. I appreciate all you do. Your work here and with Swords & Wizardry is excellent.
TheMetal1, check for the "Items" through these menu's in your copy and see if this is what you are getting.

Yes, I get the same thing you are getting - Just Weapons, Shields and Armor.
My point is there are no backpacks, torches, arrows, magic, etc. That is what I mean by gear. Gear is a specific "Type." When you sort that way, nothing appears when using the SRD.
My assumption with the ruleset is that it had all the items listed on page 40 of the Old School Essentials - Rules Tome, under the section titles "Adventuring Gear." I could not find any of these in the "Items" section.
Adventuring Gear - Item Cost (gp)
Backpack 5
Crowbar 10
Garlic 5
Grappling hook 25
Hammer (small) 2
Holy symbol 25
Holy water (vial) 25
Iron spikes (12) 1
Lantern 10
Mirror (hand-sized, steel) 5
Oil (1 flask) 2
Pole (10’ long, wooden) 1
Rations (iron, 7 days) 15
Rations (standard, 7 days) 5
Rope (50’) 1
Sack (large) 2
Sack (small) 1
Stakes (3) and mallet 3
Thieves’ tools 25
Tinder box (flint & steel) 3
Torches (6) 1
Waterskin 1
Wine (2 pints) 1
Wolfsbane (1 bunch) 10
I think that's why Bayne and I were talking past each other. There was adventuring gear, but it was weapons, armor and shields only.
When you sort by Type and Sub-Type (Potion, scrolls, gear,) nothing shows unless you use Armor, Shield or Weapons.
Again, I thought it was a more robust offering in the free ruleset and had all the content of the Old School Essentials - Classic Fantasy Tome (v1-4). Apparently, I was wrong. It has missing elements by design because it's to get people interested in things and steer them to the Advanced Players and Advanced Referee. Which, as mentioned up thread, I picked up today and resolved the issue for me.
Yeah I just put together the SRD because I am nice. The reason I put official on it is because it goes with the ruleset and I keep it up to date and there was another offering that was not being maintained. Nobody is paying me to do that.
Bayne, Good Sir,
And we thank you for that!
i'm trying to add custom effects to my characters via the combat tracker. is this not currently supported? eg. "AC: -2". i was also trying to drag and drop "Blinded" which should give the targets -4 to all saving throws and +4 to AC. but none of the pre-generated effects seem to do anything? i don't mind if the pre-genrtated ones don't work as i can just add my own custom ones if they will work.
Blind is not automated. AC:-2 should work. Let me take a look today.
Thanks for letting me know
It is working for me. See image. If all on same line make sure each effect is seperated with a semicolon
Attachment 66697
right if course. thanks Bayne. it is working for me too. i was expecting my character sheet to register the change as it does with my 5e system, but of courser that feature would have to have been added on separately. sorry to bother you with that one. i'm really happy for all the hard work you've put in and how well you respond to this thread!! do you have any recommendations for me as where to get started if i want to expand on the ruleset myself? i have already picked up the ruleset wizard. it's my understanding OSE2 was partially developed with that?
Ose was moved off ruleset wizard a few years ago. I did that to ensure compatibility with core rpg changes. How do you want to expand it? You can play about any version of first edition with it. Let me know and ill tell you how you can do it. The ruleset is not built on 5e ,or 2e for that matter. The rollers are all custom code. So if you want to mess with those or add additional effects it can get very complicated this was one of my first projects and ive been improving it over the years.
ok that's great to know. i wondered about ruleset wizard as there hasn't been any significant updates for some time now. i'm quite familiar with python as i use it for work all the time.
i guess it's just matter of digging into the docs for the xml and lua? i have zero lua experience and am just starting to go into the unzipped ruleset and figure out all the folder structure and what lives where.
a couple of major features i'd really like to add is some management for dominions and mass combat. i only have two 5e campaigns left running and once those are done i'll be playing BECMI exclusively for the foreseeable future. i'd also like to just be able to patch up bugs on my own if i feel like. i'm really keen to get into the coding side of things and learn more. thanks Bayne.
I made a stronghold extension and its on the forge. It works with RC and 3.5. I play RC as well.it does domain management
ok that's awesome! i just picked that up. i'll grab any other RC related extensions you've worked on as well.
The Divine spell "Commune" seems to be missing from the spell list. Also, the Druid spell "Commune with Nature" is present, but the description for that spell is actually the description for Commune.
So Commune needs to be added as a cleric spell and Commune with Nature needs to have the description (plus duration and range) corrected. Thanks!
hi Bayne. i'm trying to add all the spells from the RC, but it looks like they are capping at level 6?
Attachment 66776.
Also, does OSE2 support IF: and IFT: syntax for effects? i.e IF: melee; AC:1; SAVE:1 and IFT: SIZE(Large); AC: -2 as random examples
EDIT: oh damn. i'm a fool. i just have to add the level manually to the spell stats and it appears in the UI. my question regarding the IF syntax still stands tho.
Yeah adding spells by level separated by a comma overrides everything. What is the exact if statement you are trying? Ift for sure works and is coded.
well i was wanting to target by Monster Name, but i thought i could also use the tags? doesn't seem to work tho?
Attachment 66779
i also noticed the encumbrance system might be malfunctioning. when i enable the currency weight option, the total coin weight total is reading the same as the total weight carried?
Attachment 66780
Encumbrance. Your total weight is your total weight plus your general equipment. If you read the rules in OSE general equipment is usually set to about 40 if I remember right. If your playing RC set that to 0. IN that case they should equal.
Humanoid is not a size. Size is set to large in your image.
All CAPS.
TYPE
ALIGN
SIZE
yeah that's cool. i was just wondering if i could use the tags. like if i wanted to target all Giants, or Undead for example. all good.
i also like to see my coin weight separately. i can work with what you have, but having the Total weight Carried field and the Total Coin Wt. field read the exact same values feels redundant to me.
i would expect the Total Coin Wt. to be the sum of my coins and the General equipment to be the sum of my inventory. Consequently, the next logical step is having Total weight carried to be the sum of my Total Coin Wt and General Equipment. but that's just me i guess.
thanks for the reply
You can use those tags. Those are TYPE.
All weight is coin weight. ITem weight is not lbs or stones it is Cn.
These are acceptable types
"aberration",
"beast",
"celestial",
"construct",
"dragon",
"elemental",
"fey",
"fiend",
"giant",
"humanoid",
"monstrosity",
"lycanthrope",
"ooze",
"reptile",
"plant",
"shapechanger",
"enchanted",
"giantkin",
"spelluser",
"regenerating",
"undead"
I went and looked at the character sheet. I can probably go do that for weight. Make it look like the official. Good idea.
IFT: TYPE(undead), got it. thanks! and i understand all weight is cn weight. i just like to see the coin total separate. no worries.
