Getting ready to run the Hole in the Oak and wanted to point out a couple module bugs:
1 - In the 00.002 Random Happenings story entry there is a reference to a table that isn't linked in the story entry
2 - In the Table Random Happenings, Enry 16 and 17 should be one entry and the actual entry 20 is missing from the table.

Most have active devs still using FG. I did the tomes and a few of the Carcass Crawlers.
I have a really stupid question:
How do you create a new NPC? I can name it, add tokens and descriptions, but can't add weapons or damage. How is this achieved? There is a box that I cannot edit or add anything to.
Drag a weapon from items onto the attack area or right click and edit the fields
I just tried the right-click on the NPC weapon box and select "Create Item", it doesn't add an entry BUT if you drag a weapon over from the Items menu, it is added, and you can then edit that new entry.Quote:

Off the top of my head, and I could be wrong cause I've always dragged and dropped since my recent return to OSE, but I think it stopped about the time you fixed the missing damage information from when dragging over weapons.
On another note, thanks for tweaking the little things people come across. I love this ruleset, it's keeping me from going back to 5e. :o

Minor typo:
OSE ADV, "Doppelganger" is misspelled as "Doppleganger" in languages. This causes players to get a weird look from Doppelgangers when spoken to.
It is like broken english. Thanks, next time I push an update ill include it
Hi, we are loving the OSE implementation.
But we have encountered a bug when our new druid chooses his daily spell under "prepare" on his character sheet:
[5/10/2025 9:06:25 AM] [ERROR] Script execution error: [string "C:spells_detail:prepared_box"]:124: attempt to index field 'level_cur' (a nil value)
Also, we encounter an error message when we drag a new spell onto his character sheet (but the spell still gets there).
And when I drag a quest to the Quests box on the XP tab of the party sheet:

Ill take a look today. I messed with this tab a few weeks ago.
Ok give this update a run. I noticed drag targeting was not working for spell saves either so I fixed that. I did a bit of cleanup too.
After creating a character:
- Level up to first level
- Click in the "Abilities" tab
- Under "Class Abilities", choose a Class Ability and click the button to open the window for the description of the class ability.
The opened window does not have a title for the class ability.
If you open a Class from the desktop's dropdown menu (in the Character section), open the class' matrix, then choose the description of a class ability, the window opened displays a title correctly.
Occurs with OSE Basic and Advanced character creation options.
Latest update for FG and OSE2, no extensions, cache cleared.

Characters: Elf, Dwarf. VS: Goblin, Hobgoblin (both SRD and Referee's Tome data), and Wolf, Normal. Weapons: Battleaxe, Crossbow, Dagger, Sword.
Error does not occur against the Wolf, only the humanoids. Works targeting each other, too. Fighters, Thieves, and Halflings seem to work without this error.
I also note that Dwarf does not get Infravision, but the Elf does.

Ok weird taking a look now. How are you attacking? With targets dropping dice or dragging from chat?
So I cannot reproduce this. Race or class should not matter. Can you tell me how you have your options set thac0 or attack matrix?
Provide me detailed steps. Every detail counts. I have tried every which way to get this to throw an error to no avail. Make sure you don't have a OSE2 folder INSIDE your ruleset folder. DELETE the OSE2 pak. UPDATE and try again
I had it set to RC Matrix. Switching to THAC0 stopped the issue. ADV Matrix also works normally with the above characters.
Straight "out of the box" - create new character, "level up," drop weapons and armor on the character, drop into combat tracker and onto a map, target,
then swing away - error. Clicking on the "modifier" box to roll, clicking on the die, or dropping into the chat window all produce the same results.
Is there a document that tells me what all the settings are and what the icons on the charsheet mean? Thanks.
Let me try with RC matrix option. Believe it or not that matters! it has nothing to do with race class or any other combo. How did you target where they all on CT, how did you roll etc. That is what matters.
The icons on charsheet? I'm not sure I know what you are referring to. Other than youtube videos no.
OOHH I got it to replicate.
Activity all on the CT. Ctrl-Click on token on map to target. Doesn't matter if I click on the little gray die, on the 0 box, or drag the die to the Chat.
Next to the weapon on the sheet is an icon that changes. I have figured out what the two points are (missile weapons, as it gives me a # field and decrements when I roll) but the other symbols don't seem to mean anything, except switching to the arm with sword (what it looks like) clears the text in the damage box and gives 3 damage for any weapon when clicked.

Ok found the issue for demihumans I was grabbing the martial table out of the tome not RC. so depending on AC of defender it may not exist. Updating in next 10 minutes

Solved. Great! Thanks. Not that running it with THAC0 would be an issue. But if the matrices are anything like AD&D 1e, there's a range of ACs that a 20 hits, whereas with THAC0 there is only one. But I don't expect to get that granular with OSE. Excellent work. Thanks for your prompt attention.
Hi, we have been using the OSE extension and it's been working great for us. A couple things cropped up in our last session: yesterday while playing OSE I think the program was giving a strength bonus for thrown weapons. Plus one player was getting an unexpected +1 to his melee attacks (he didn't have a strength bonus or anything else that would give it, we think).
Also, the program was slowing down as the night progressed. It was getting pretty sluggish for my players (and I noticed it as GM although not as bad). This has been an issue for more than a month, I think. I am not sure if it is an FG issue or an OSE issue.

I will need more details so I can try and see the issue. Please provide screen shots of the main tab so I can see the stats and how your weapons are set. It is most like an issue with how your players setup their charactersheets. Also i need to know if you are using weapon proficiencies and a screen shot of that tab and record you create. Lastly i need to see a screenshot of the combat tracker. You can post here or discord.
As far as being sluggish since it is your players it could come down to internet connecrion issues.
First there is no "thrown attack". He/She may have the toggle to melee and think it is thrown as it kinda of looks like a guy throwing a hammer. To throw a weapon set it to ranged (arrow icon)
I went and looked at this to refresh my memory on the coding so I could help you. It is important to remember there are basically 4 variations of OSE you can play. Basic (BECMI/Weapon prof both off), Advanced Fantasy (weapon prof off ), Advanced Fantasy (weapon prof. on ) and BECMI (weapon prof turned on). Those options will all affect your attack and possibly damage rolls. I could not reproduce the issue. I did add another check for proficiency (weird edge case) but if that had been the issue it would have caused your rolls to have a negative modifier.

The scrolls and maps in the table on p216 of the Referee's Tome should be included. You've stated in a closed thread that you don't see how spell scrolls (for example) can be entered, since each one will be different, but I don't see how that objection would apply to the cursed scroll and the various protection scrolls described on pages 216-217, each of which is unique and described in detail in the rules. (FWIW, I also disagree about the spell scrolls and treasure maps, as I believe having basic entries for these with the descriptions provided on pages 218-219 would be both easy and helpful to players, but, well, you know, that's just like, uh, my opinion, man.)
