5E Advanced Effects (items, npcs, characters)

Yeah, more details would be helpful here. So to begins with I made a feat. Added captions for the links in case they die in the future and someone else stumbles upon this.

When I click on it to edit it, I added an effect to give the AC it describes.

Then I took a character without the feat applied and added them to the combat tracker. In the next images, the combat tracker entry is at the top and the character's abilities pane is below it.

Next I added the feat to the character. The combat tracker did not immediately update with the bonus AC so I removed it from the tracker and re-added it. Still nothing shows in it.

I am trying to figure out what I am doing wrong that the effect is not showing in the tracker. It shows for anything else I have used advanced effects on.

Currently Advanced Effects does not support Feats in this way. However, having asked how, you might get it later :)

This was there when I inherited it and the back end code doesn’t do anything as far as I can tell. I thought of making it do something but haven’t gotten around to it

Just wanted to mention this one again. It's not the end of the world, but for some more complicated NPCs the Effect Features take up a lot of space (and the Version section is brutal, too (I know that's not this extension but it exacerbates the issue)):

A possible solution might be to have a button (or just click on Effect Feature) to expand/minimize the section. This would keep it out of the body of the statblock but make it less obtrusive when needed. Sections of the Actions tab on PC sheets work similarly to this idea, though I'm not sure if it's possible to leverage that directly here.

I agree with you, I do think we need to talk to Smiteworks about the version section, I for sure don't think it needs to be near that big, a simple icon on the NPC/Items etc could be enough and hover over it to see what it says if you can't tell by the icon. That would help a lot.

For the tab issue, remember adding a tab would also add in more possible conflicts with updates. I don't think it's a massive issue but you can see in your screenshot the tab list is already full, meaning there would be needed to maybe make a scroll bar or something which has to resize the main view area. Which I believe FG VTT currently does not have for tabs.

Yeah... I mentioned that to SW awhile back and there was no interest to change it... I wouldn't mind a global setting to just hide it completely... It's addition is pure negative to my screen space with no positives to speak of... Second choice is just a small button in the header.



Regarding the tab issue... I didn't mean a tab, but a section header so that clicking both of these highlighted areas would operate similarly:

(I have no idea how difficult that is to make happen, but thought it might be a better solution than trying to jam it back into the statblock body where it used to be. I think there might be a higher likelihood of conflicts in the body and that was the impetus for extracting it to the current location.)

HI guys! Just wanted to report that I can't see the "Add Effect" toggle on NPC sheets. It's been a while since I've GMed but I noticed it the other day. Toggling the lock doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks!

That is a module NPC, you need to make a local copy.

However, with the new system how FG is doing NPC edits, this likely can be updated to include those in the DB to get the change.

ok, thanks! i don't remember having to create a copy to add an effect. it'd be nice to just be able to grab a premade NPC and go but it's no big deal to create a copy and replace them in an encounter.

You always had to. The new feature in the 2024 books are they are able to be edited now without making a copy.

They are normally read only records.

Extension won't allow me to use basic effect such as:

IFT: frightened; ADVATK

Disabling extension allows that effect to work.

I've noticed that when loading this extension, the button at the top of a NPC that allows to talk as that NPC in the chat, disappears. Above are the only other extensions that I have loaded.

Pushed an update to fix this. v7.0.3

Hi. I've been testing this version of the advanced effects and noticed a slight issue. I can apply the "action only" effect to weapons only. It's needed for ammo too for the Bmos' Ammo Manager to work.
Without it the ammo's effect is applied to all attacks.

Thought it did or that was the intent anyhow. I'll double check it.

It's there with the subtype Ammunition. I guess if you are playing PFRPG I don't know if the subtype is different or not

Hiya! Weird issue that a friend and I isolated to Advanced Effects after the recent updates - in class/subclass feature boxes, with only Advanced Effects loaded, the level indicator for the feature disappears. Reference for where the indicator normally is included.

Pushed a fix for this

Hey Ryan, I think there is an issue with Advanced Effects. On the Action tab when toggling a Versatile weapon from one hand to two hands the damage dice do not update. When toggling any weapon from primary hand to off hand the proficiency bonus to damage isn't adjusted either.

Tested on a clean campaign with only Advanced Effects loaded.

Came here to report the exact same issue. It is definitely an issue with the Advanced Effects extension.

In Pathfinder when adding an effect to an item, the effect has [show] I can't find the option to select hide. I know there was that option in the version of this extension for Pathfinder. I'm pretty sure there was in 5e as well.
Also the Type selector doesn't change the Description/Conditions/Modifiers section based on the Type selected.

What I had here originally was wrong. I found what was causing the Action Only to not work. When changing from the old Pathfinder extension to this new one there were artifacts left behind even after deleting the old items. The effects that were on the combat tracker, placed by an item using the old extension, were not removed.

Does that mean its working ok now?

Sorry, the Action Only problem I was having is no longer a problem. The other parts related to the interface are still a problem. I do not see a way to hide the effect and when changing the Type for the effect it doesn't change the interface based on what was selected.

Both are working for me.

From a client there is no hide if that is what you are doing. As for the type I can take a look but that entire cycler is likely to go away replaced by a different method.

The visibility is only visible on the host? I did not remember that.
It looks like it might be an incompatibility with another extension. When I open the campaign with the extensions I use it doesn't display visibility and the Type doesn't change what is displayed.
If I open it with just this extension it does display things properly. I'm now trying to figure out what extension could be causing the problem.

I've been using your version of the Advanced Effects on my PF1 game lately and noticed an issue with the "Action Only" function. Any action seems to trigger all AO effects on equipped items.
Tested with the older Bmos' extension and it doesn't seem to have this issue.

can you provide an example or screenshot?

This is from the test. I put a AO effect of DEX+4 on a sword and make an attack with a bow.
The bow gets a bonus of +2 on the roll.

I'm not seeing that in my tests so it must be a result of a conflict. What else are you running?

A lot of extensions actually. But If I change to Bmos' Advanced Effects, the issue vanishes.

I can try to find the possible extension that is causing the issue later tomorrow.

It's a little like oranges to tangerines. Same but different so unless I can nail town a specific conflict there isn't any thing I can do
