I noticed somewhere that someone had created a mongoose traveller ruleset. I have never seen the Mongoose edition of traveller, but, I do have the LBB's for the classic game and was wandering if the ruleset was similliar? Mainly looking for something that just has the basics (character sheet, etc.)

I think Mongoose Traveller is an Open Gaming Licence version of classic Traveller. You can find the low-down on it here:

Mongoose Traveller page: https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/rpg/series.php?qsSeries=51

Take a look at the Traveller Developers' Pack (free download towards the bottom of the web page), as it contains the Traveller SRD.

Cheers

Was probably me, I got it started, but haven't had much time to work on it.

Mongoose's version of Traveller is the latest incarnation of the Traveller game, and the one actively supported by new product releases. It's similar to Classic Traveller but not the same. Think of it more as Classic Traveller, simplified and updated. It has the same basic mechanics (2d6+modifiers = 8+ to succeed).

I've done myself a ruleset based on the Foundation ruleset for Mongoose Traveller (MGT). There's currently only the character sheet in there. I've also currently done it as a separate ruleset. I'm planning on making it an extension for the Foundation ruleset instead.

Mongoose's version of Traveller is the latest incarnation of the Traveller game, and the one actively supported by new product releases. GURPS Traveller is also still an active license, and though products have been a little thin on the ground over the last couple of years, it's still supported by JTAS (https://jtas.sjgames.com/) and there are always rumours of more releases in the pipeline.

From your original post I take it that you're really looking to play using rules very similar to Classic Traveller, however, on the off chance that what you want is some Traveller supported in any form...

You can use my GURPS ruleset for FG2 to play Traveller using the GURPS 4e rules, as laid out in the GURPS Basic Set and the SJG release Interstellar Wars (https://www.sjgames.com/gurps/traveller/interstellarwars/), which covers the fight between Terra and the First Imperium, but which can support games in the Classic Traveller Third Imperium era as long as you're not too picky about the exact canon ships and weapons...

Interstellar Wars, is IMO a superb book and a worthwhile incarnation of Traveller in its own right. It's also available as a pdf from e23 (https://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=SJG31-2401).

Thanks for the info, I will look into the mongoose version. I also have Megatraveller and the d20 Traveller book as well.
