Is there a limit to the amoount of Information (i.e. Story pages) that can be entered into a Module? and do you see any noticeable lag when the modules get large?

Ive done a couple Smaller Modules ( Dry spell approx 15 pages, and Sons of Gruumsh 30+ pages.) but am now about 3/4 of the way through entering "the City of Splendors" into a usable Module format... I now have Several hundred pages in the Story, all of the numbers marked and Pinned on the maps and am starting to worry that it might be too much... Any one ever pushed the limits ... or is there any?

I couldn't give you a definitive answer, but I've put all of H1 & H2 in, and most of H3 (as we're in the middle of H2, I've been bad about finishing H3), and none of them even hiccup when I load them up. This is a good question, though.

I suspect your db.xml can be a very large file and probably not see much lag. They are pure text files.

The largest Savage World module I personally made for DA was The 50F GM one and the db.xml files was 842K. The Shaintar GM module which I also did some work on was 873K. There is no noticeable lag on opening either module. Of a straight adventure module which was fully pinned the biggest one I made was the upper levels of Rappan Athuk Reloaded. That one's db.xml was only 255K but I split RA into different modules, upper level, middle levels and deep levels because the storybook list(s) were just getting too long to be easy to deal with. Once you get over a certain number of entries even if you number them well, I found it a hassel. I numbered the storybook entries to match the level so I could do a search on like "1 " to get all the first level entries or "1A " for level 1A or "1B " for level 1B, etc.

How big is you db.xml file?

Heh... My db.xml is at 973kb right now... and I got a ways to go.

I'm using an alpha-numeric system to keep things straight... A is chapter 1heading then to drill down I use A1... then A1a...and A1a1 Thats as far as I've had to go so far... Hehe

Also I use Letter further down the alphabet to keep other items together. Like I used Y for the individual building desc. so if its CD2 on the map... i Used YCD2 to mark it in the story... That way all the building descriptions stayed in one place.

And just to be clear... I'm not having any problems opening it... I just noticed it has started taking like a half a second to open the story... as opposed to the other modules which are almost immediate. It just made me wonder if there was a point where it might become a problem.

Interesting. Is it every entry that has a pause or just the first time? Personally I wouldn't worry until you have like a second or two of lag.

I hesitate to mention this, but why would you want to input what I think is mostly a source book with a few dungeons? Wouldn't you be better off just doing the adventure locations and just using a seachable PDF for the rest?

I personally consider my gaming/prep time to be percious so I won't input anything unless it will be used more in a game, time wise, than it takes me to input it, time wise.

Its just when I first open the story tab. I am not worried about it... Like I said... The delay is almost nothing... Just curious.

And as to why I want to make it a module... 3 reasons...

1) I like to run City adventures. This way I can pretty much do it on the fly from here on out.( Everything is linked so you have access to all the info on the fly as the characters move about the city)

2) FG2 is new to me... So like any new toy you play with it wayyy too much at first. I thought I'd get the big stuff out of the way while I'm in that mode.

3) I wanted to. Hahahaha

I'm actually thinking about putting the entire Forgotten realms setting boxed set in so I have it as the base for my campaigns. and we cant forget Skullport...and Undermountain... I see lots of typing in my future.:D
