Evil Hat Productions if hard at work on an RPG set in Jim Butcher's 'Dresden Files' universe. If you haven't read the series, I whole-heartedly recommend it. A quick read about a wizard in modern day Chicago, it inspired a good television show that was canceled after one season.

Nevertheless, Evil Hat has said they are basing the game on a development of their "Spirit of the Century" role playing game, which itself is eventually based on the Fate Role Playing System.

(If it sounds strange to you that I can go a whole message without mentioning a Wizard of the Coast or White Wolf product - you should do more experimenting.)

Anyway...

Is there anyone out there playing Spirit of the Century on Fantasy Grounds? Does anyone know of a ruleset for either Spirit of the Century or Fate?

I haven't played either but I fully intend to play the new Dresden Files game when it comes out. Might as well get a jump on it with Spirit of the Century.

I am so waiting for the Dresden Files! I've never played Fate, however the system looks good. I've even sent in an application to playtest Dresden Files using VTs, here's hoping! :)

Waldo has done (is working on) a basic ruleset for SotC. I'm playing in his supernatural/spy genre game using the SotC rules on alternate Friday nights (8pm UK time). We could do with a couple more players if anyone is interested.

I've also sent an application to play test Dresden Files using Fantasy Grounds during the Beta testing.

Two chances of getting in on the beta then! ;)

One of the goals of my in game character sheet designer is to quickly stat up a sheet for a game like SOTC. I have the SOTC book but have yet had a chance to play.

I'm very interested in SotC and Fate. I'd love to play in a game using this system.

ThunderYak, are you in the European time zones or in the US?
As stated above there's a game on alternate Friday nights that could use a couple of extra players

It might mean the game gets out a little sooner though.
There's been some posts of character types up on the website (https://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com), and a rather nice picture of the page layout (https://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com/color-document.jpg)

The closest they've come to a date is that they expect it out before Turn Coat comes out in paperback.

I think they know they've been taking too long. Butcher has written 3 books since they started the project. I wish I had more faith in the project.

The game's definitely not vapor-ware: They've got a ton of $$$ invested in art already and a lot of it is written - they just ran into some problems with the rules, specifically getting the game play to match the feel of the book. SotC is a great game as is the FATE system that runs it so I have faith in their intentions. All that said, they may have missed the peak in the Dresden popularity.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing this one, and really looking forward to it.

I love SotC and am the 'official' GM for SotC campaign in our local guild. Of course, we have only had a few games so far and the system does take some time to really learn. You can play it immediately and have fun but the more you play it, the more you get used to tossing around aspects and using fate points. its a good system and in my opinion, very adaptable.

If anyone does start a game, I would be interested. I have not yet used my Fantasy Grounds software and would love to try it out. I am in EST zone but pretty flexible on times.

Funny you should say that, we're planning a SotC game on Friday evenings 8pm UK time, starting sometime late August / early September.

If anyone is interested, we're starting character building tonight (Friday 4th Sept, 8pm UK time) for the Spirit of the Century game mentioned above. I've currently got three players planning to attend. We'll start the game next week.

It’s Harry’s Birthday

Harry Dresden was born on a Halloween, so we thought it would be fitting to birth a special announcement of our own: having wrapped up our “text completion” goal at the end of this month (today!), we have settled on a target date for publication–Origins, 2010 (June 23-27, 2010).

Now, we’re calling this a target date rather than a definite publication date for a reason: you can miss a target, and given our historical curse with missing stated dates, there’s a chance that’ll happen here (more on that in a moment). That said, if we can pull it off in any conceivable way, we will at least run an instant content preorder at Origins.

:) here's hoping it stays on schedule!

Truthfully, this has taken so long I've lost the edge of my interest. It better be a masterpiece or it won't be worth the wait.

From the bitter fan department.
