Just thought I'd post a general recommendation of the on-line format, and FGII and the newly-released Call of Cthulhu ruleset in particular, to visitors to these boards considering these purchases.

For many years I have run and played in both classic tabletop CoC and more recently (well, relatively recently) Delta Green in an internet-based environment. More than any other genre out there, horror RPGing truly lends itself to, and benefits from, the online gaming environment. The same elements that some fantasy RPGers find objectionable with text-based, on-line gaming environments such as FGII (i.e., significantly slower pace of play and a heavier reliance on effective and lengthier GM descriptive technique) actually serve to enhance the horror role-playing experience.

Here is a link to the transcipts of one such game I ran to give you an idea of what I'm talking about. A warning is in order: some of the material is adult in nature.

Now, bear in mind, these transcripts derive from gaming sessions run on WebRPG (basically just a simple chat program with a die roller utility), long before I discovered Fantasy Grounds. Now imagine if I'd been able to run the same scenario with the standard FGII virtual tabletop utilities (such as maps and images) and ready access to the core CoC rules. That would have made the experience even better all around.

Nonetheless, I love "immersion" gaming in all genres, and the FGII format can really foster such an atmosphere, especially if you round up a few mature players.

BTW: There is no conclusion to the scenario. I was unfortunately called back to active military service.
