I am currently running Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil in my current campaign and between sessions (like most DM's) I'm building maps,I am using dundjinni and I typically break up the maps which i save as one JPEG into smaller chunks but the loadtime is still ranging from 30 sec-5 min for some people is there any way to speed this up? I assumed it would be slower as a PNG file but should i try that? Any help would be greatly apprecaited. Average JPEG map size is about 800kbs.

Is there any way I could get those maps from you? We are looking at running the same adventure soon, and I have been dreading making those maps.

They will then already be on their machines and should open quickly.

The only way you are going to really speed up map transfer during the game is to make the map size smaller. Typically smaller file sized maps don't look as pretty, so there is a constant battle between how long you (and the players) are willing to wait for the transfer vs. how good you want the map to look.

In my groups, most of my players want the maps to load faster and aren't very picky about looks. My compromise is to use a sepia filter on the map and then convert the map to 4 bit color which gives me small map sizes relative to the map's pixel size. Each group is different, and if you are using Dundjinni it would seem your group is the opposite of mine.

The module map idea works fine though it would be a pain if you are constantly adding to the maps before the session since you would need to distribute before each game and hope your players remembered to update their module each week.

It is also worth pointing out that using module maps is a fine art, check out Astinus' and the developers' posts here:
