I have not played D&D in many a year. I had picked up the Players guide and DM guide for Core Rules version 3.5. What version or ruleset comes packaged with FGII? Also, if it is something other than 3.5, is there a place a could get them? Or would I just have to modify the current ruleset?

Moonwizard has a 4th edition ruleset, there is a World of Darkness one in development at the moment and I know you can buy sets for many others on partner sites. I'm sorry for the lack of links but I just woke up and was at a Motorhead concert all last night my head hurts :P

FG comes with the a cut down version of the D&D 3.5 SRD. The biggest number of users of the software probably play D&D in all it versions with most playing 3.5 or 4th edition.

As mentioned, there are both commercial and homemade rulesets to support other games. Savage Worlds is a popular ruleset you can buy.

Toadwart made a generic ruleset a while back for games without specific rulesets. Take a look at the demo - its on the download page and play around with it and if you have any questions just ask.

If you are using 3.5, you need d20_jpg ruleset. You can find it at this location:

This has a lot of extra optimizations.

You're in luck! FGII comes with D&D 3.5 built right in, so you don't need to buy any other rulebooks! (To be precise, FG's default rule-set is the free version of D&D 3.5, the d20 SRD, which you can also access here (https://www.d20srd.org/).)
