View Full Version : Problem with Masks

In our game last week, we experienced a new problem that I haven't seen before. I always have been able to share maps from our previous sessions and the masks on those maps were saved as part of it. Now, some of my players aren't getting the saved masks. If they exit the program or even close the map in game, when I reshare it they don't have the "unmasked" portion and I have to redo everything they can see. I use large maps of entire dungeon levels so this is kindof annoying.
After a while of being in game, one of the players had this error message:
Could not complete file transfer of the file portrait_id-00011_token (HTTP/1.1 404 NOT FOUND). Check your network configuration.
Not all of the players are having this problem though. My wife hasn't had any issues, although she does play on the same network as me if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First trick is to pre-share the maps... It'll make both mask and map share at the same time.
The rest is basically a bandwith complaint. Disabling QoS scheduling helps some, making sure not to do much else with the bandwitdh both you and the players have will help even more.

Alright I loaded the map, unmasked what they could see, and preloaded it. The player connected and when I shared the map all he sees is the fully masked image.

I know there has been some problems with this before... And the Dev's even suggested a way to deal with it. But search as I may I can't seem to find it.
AHA Found it

This may have something to do with the module the GM shared with the players to speed up downloads when he goes on the road though.
Yes, I share modules with my players and have the same problem. However, there is a workaround.
If the GM opens the map, applies the mask, selects "Preload", lets that chill for a few seconds, maybe five or six, then shares the map, the mask should be in place from the get go.
I learned that the hard way, with players trying to hit print screen before the mask covered the map.

Thanks for pointing to that thread, however this is not the same problem I am having. The problem I am having is that the unmasked portion of the map isn't saving for my players. Here is a better description of what is happening:
I host the game. Players connect. I open up a map we are using. I can see the unmasked portion of the map where we left off in the previous session. I then click "Share Sheet" (and also tried the preload image/share sheet mentioned above). Some of the players get a loading screen and then eventually get a blank map with nothing but grid lines, even though I and some other players can see the map normally. The only solution I have found was to delete the mask, recreate the mask, and then unmask what they can see again. This wouldn't be such a big deal but with large maps it can be pretty time consuming.
The thread you pointed me to did appear to have a solution though. I had the player connect with a different username which appears to have solved the problem.

There also seems to be a bug with map location when you share them. For maps bigger than the map frame, it appears that some players always see the top left corner of the map on the first map share. It doesn't seem to happen to all players and is solved by just resharing again.
