I am interested in getting into Savage Worlds, should I buy the Savage Worlds ruleset as well as the Explorer Edition rulebook? Any other books to kick off with that may be of interest or help?

I think the people that will be in the group with me have a greater interest in Sci-Fi style game with advanced type weaponry, vehicles, and such if anyone can suggest a path like that to follow in SW.

Hi

IMHO, pick the SW:Ex ruleset and personally I also find it handy to have a hard copy of the rules for the times I'm away from the PC so I'd suggest picking up the SW:Ex rulebook from your local gamestore for $10 if they have it in stock.

Possibly Necropolis (https://www.tripleacegames.com/Necropolis.php) or Slipstream (https://www.studio2publishing.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=2491) would be of interest as they are sci-fi based settings. To be honest I have seen a lot of people just picking their favourite setting from another system and just running with that as the setting for their SW games.

Bear in mind that Slipstream is very good but 1930's Flash Gordon style SciFi rather than "modern" SciFi...

Following a discussion in another thread I've just started playing Mass Effect again and it would indeed rock as a setting. Then again so would EVE, still waiting for Whitewolf to release further news on their RPG based on the MMO though.

We sell the SW ruleset with either the original core or the SWEXP rules. You do not have to buy two different products.
