newbie questions

Just a few things I was wondering while I am thinking of buying FG.

1) After the initial purchase is there any other costs? Do I pay a monthly fee or do I need to purchase any campaigns to play in a group?

2) How easy is it to get involved? I don;t want to find myself all eager to play but with no group accepting me.

3)Are any older games represented? I used to play Cthulhu and Cyberpunk years back and am looking to revisit some of those games.

If any of these issues are answered anywhere feel free to point me to them but I couldn;t find anything in the FAQ or links.

1) It's a one time buy with no extra monthly costs.

2) It really depends on what you want to play and what time you can play. Generally, speaking the more popular a system you wish to play and if you are availiable after work during the week or on the weekends and live in the Americas or Western Europe you should not have a problem. The best way to tell if you can find a game is to go back a week or so of Guild Hall posts and see how many games you are interested in started in a time you could play.

3) Yes, but it is harder to find older games. Digital Adventures is working on a CoC ruleset.

Hi Stig, and welcome to the forums!

All of Griogre's advice is good, but I'd add that official rule conversions for other RPGs (such as the Digital Adventures' Savage Worlds or Call of Cthulhu) cost extra (typically $10-12) on top of the base FG licence, but only for the person who is GM.

Unofficial/community ruleset conversions are often distributed for free (for example the JPG D&D4E ruleset) but may not have much reference material included (such as spells and monsters) as this is often copyrighted.

Thanks for the info. From my quick look around the site and demo it looks good so you may well see me in a game some time. Now to test the demo campaign.....:)
