Using FG 2 for Online game that is played with pen and paper.

Hi,

Basically i just wanted to ask a question of you all before i purchased the product. Myself and 4 friends like to play 4e D&D however we play it pen and paper style for the most part however, one of our players lives far from us and by most part right now we use vent and a web cam showing the draw out board to him. This however, is proving difficult for him to keep up with what is happening and letting him plan out his next move without a good representation of what is happening and where everything is place.

So basically what i was looking for is a program where i could create maps from scratch for the weeks encounters or dungeons and then while we are playing just move the monsters/PC characters around to give him a good representation of where everything is. Can FG 2.0 do this without actually playing the game more so just a visual representation for him? If not does anyone know any programs that could fit this criteria easily ?

FG is a table top simulator not a game so it will do what you want as far as keeping him in the game. But, for this to work best I suspect you are going to want the player's around the table to have a client or at least a monitor too. So all the action happens in FG instead of what the web cam is pointing at. I have heard some groups do this and I've even heard of a few where most of them all get togeather but bring their laptops and play with a few remote friends.

FG does have some map making capablity on about the order of a battlemap. I would suggest you Download the FG2 Demo and try a trial run to see how it goes for you. Then come back and ask any questions about your concerns after the trial.

You can not save anything on the demo but you can create new maps (drawings) which vanish when you end the demo. The demo can connect 2 clients to a host so you might have your remote friend, you and maybe another guy representing "the rest of the group" try it after or before a one of your regular games.
