View Full Version : Making modules?

Hey all,
Just wondering how much information you actually put into a module and how much you leave to typing as the game goes on? I have been wondering about this. I intend to put in maps, enemies, and loot; but I am wondering how much of a story do you write into your modules? Do you list detailed conversations, room descriptions, etc.
Mainly I am wondering how much prep time I am looking at from a blank module to being able to run it smoothly with a group.
Thanks,

While I encourage you to input a small module completely at least once, as an aid to learning to use FG - if you use voice with FG the only thing you need input are the Maps and Monsters/NPCs. If you don't use voice then you are going to want to do room/area description chat frames and maybe some NPC conversations depending on the scernario.
With voice after maps and personalities you may also find it helpful to put chat frame text in for key areas. It really goes down towards your style and whether it's a one off or area you are likely to use multiple times in a game or in multiple games.

Thanks Griogre,
If I am not using voice chat, then I should be looking at inputing quite a bit of the module into FG.
What I have started to do is this, tell me if this will help or hurt me in the long run.
In the story I input links to the character sheet for creatures the PCs will face. In the creature description I include chat text (if they have something to say or battle cries) and a link to the picture of the creature. I figured this would save space in the story entry, but not sure if this will come back later to bite me with missing data or anything else.

When I do the full effort, I do something similar. I run the game off the map using map pins to get to room entries in the storybook. The room entries have most of the data with links to the monsters. I think it is a good idea to put a link to the monster pic in the monster because you get good reuseablity of that the monster that way and when every you use the monster you will have the picture. Because of that, I would move the monster's non generic chat frames to the story entries. I will often put descriptive text into a chat frame in the monster description saying what the monster looks like.

Ok so basically anything useful the creature has to say put it in the story, but keep generic chat in the creature description.
And thanks for the tip with the descriptive chat frames.
Any other tips to make my life easier?
